17. Aspects of the inflammatory response and formation of polys in the nasal and sinus mucosa
Abstract : Experimental sinusitis was induced in rabbits by ostial occlusion, with or without subsequent inoculation of Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus or Bacteroides fragilis The general inflammatory response, including goblet cell differentiation and polyp formation, was morphologically investigated. Polyps were experimentally induced by a combining mechanical trauma the mucosa with infection or by injection of agarose or N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenylalanine (FMLP) into the maxillary sinus. 18. Multiple Functions of Glutathione Transferases : A Study on Enzymatic Function, Regulatory Role and Distribution in Mouse and Man
Abstract : To cope with various endogenous toxin and xenobiotics nature has equipped the organisms with a proper protection system. Glutathione transferases (GSTs) are important components of the cellular defense against oxidative stress. These proteins appear to be suited for different tasks. READ MORE

19. Immunopathogenesis of schistosomiasis mansoni : Immunity and pathology in a primary and a secondary infection following chemotherapy in the mouse and the baboo models
Abstract : This thesis describes a series of experiments aimed at elucidating the mechanisms ofimmunity and pathology elicited by both a primary infection and a reinfection exposure toSchistosoma mansoni following chemotherapy. The effects of a single large cercarial doseand a cumulatively equivalent dose, administered as multiple small doses are compared. READ MORE

20. Intracellular signaling in the lung : a role for C/EBP transcription factors in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, glucocorticoid signaling and lung development
Abstract : Over the last decade, a previously unknown role has been established for members of the C/EBP transcription factor family in lung gene expression. In other organs, C/EBPs are well known regulators of cell differentiation and linked processes such as proliferation, apoptosis, gene expression as well as central regulators of inflammatory responses and infectious defenses.
