  1. 1. Computational modeling of polycrystals using gradient crystal plasticity

    Author : Mikkel Grymer; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; parallel algorithms; crystal plasticity; dual mixed finite element method; gradient hardening; grain modeling;

    Abstract : This thesis treats the modeling of grain size dependence inmicrostructure models of metals. It is shown how gradient hardening, in a thermodynamically consistent fashion, can be included into a crystal plasticity model, which is used as the constitutive model in each grain of the polycrystal. 2. 2. On computational homogenization of gradient crystal inelasticity

    Author : Kristoffer Carlsson; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; computational homogenization; gradient theory; multiscale modeling; crystal plasticity;

    Abstract : Crystal inelasticity is the main modeling technique employed to study the mechanical behavior of polycrystalline metallic materials. This class of models has the capability to represent micromechanical phenomena such as plastic slip, grain boundary interactions, and dislocation pile-up. READ MORE

  3. 3. Strain Gradient Plasticity Modelling of Precipitation Strengthening

    Author : Mohammadali Asgharzadeh; Jonas Faleskog; Samuel Forest; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The introduction of particles and precipitates into a matrix material results in strengthening effects. The two main mechanisms involved in this matter are referred to as Orowan and shearing. To numerically study this phenomenon is the motivation to the research done, which is presented here in this thesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Phenotypic plasticity and local adaptation in tadpoles

    Author : Björn Lardner; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; salinity tolerance; trade-off; life-history; tail depth; inducible defence; antipredator strategies; tadpoles; anurans; amphibians; Phenotypic plasticity; local adaptation; competitive ability; allozymes.; Animal ecology; Djurekologi;

    Abstract : Amphibian larvae are plastic in many traits. Can plasticity buffer population divergence, so that local adaptation is more common in non-plastic traits? I argue that this may be the case for adaptive plastic responses. READ MORE

  5. 5. From geography to genes: evolutionary perspectives on salinity tolerance in the brackish water barnacle Balanus improvisus

    Author : Anna-Lisa Wrange; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; environmental change; salinity; marine; invertebrates; evolution; plasticity; population genetics; functional genomics; barnacle; osmoregulation;

    Abstract : How species respond to changes in their environment is a fundamental question in biology. This has become an increasingly important issue as anthropogenic effects of climate change and biological invasions have major impacts on marine ecosystems worldwide. READ MORE
