  1. 1. WC grain growth during sintering of cemented carbides : Experiments and simulations

    Author : Karin Mannesson; John Ågren; Annika Borgenstam; Håkan Engqvist; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cemented carbide; Grain growth; Abnormal grain growth; Image analysis; Modeling; 3-D grain size distribution; Inverse Saltykov; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Cemented carbides are composite materials consisting of a hard carbide and a ductile binder. They are powdermetallurgically manufactured, where liquid-phase sintering is one of the main steps. The most common cemented carbide consists of WC and Co and it is widely used for cutting tools. 2. 2. Moisture-induced stress and distortion of wood : A numerical and experimental study of wood's drying and long-term behaviour

    Author : Sara Florisson; Sigurdur Ormarsson; Johan Vessby; Kent Persson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; analytical method; calibration; controlled climate; creep; distortion; experimental methodology; FEM; fibre orientation; mechano-sorption; moisture transport; natural climate; Norway spruce; numerical model; three-dimensional; timber beam; validation; wood; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : With the current advances made in three-dimensional modelling of wood, it is possible to provide an overall picture of moisture flow, and moisture-induced stress and deformations, whereas previously, experiments only provided local measurements. The main aim of the doctoral thesis is to investigate the possibilities of the developed three-dimensional numerical model to predict the behaviour of wood when simultaneously exposed to a mechanical load and a particular climate. 3. 3. Aspects of Structural Evolution in Cemented Carbide – Carbide Size, Shape and Stability

    Author : Ida Borgh; Joakim Odqvist; Peter Hedström; Annika Borgenstam; Jean-Michel Missiaen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cemented carbide; Ti; Zr C; Coarsening; Phase separation; C-activity; initial WC powder size; electron backscattered diffraction; microscopy; X-ray diffraction;

    Abstract : Cemented carbide is a composite material used in applications like cutting tools and rock drilling inserts. The material commonly consists of WC grains embedded in a Co-rich binder phase and the material properties strongly depend on the WC grain size. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modeling the Microstructure Evolution During and After Hot Working in Martensitic Steel

    Author : Nima Safara Nosar; John Ågren; Göran Engberg; Hans-Olof Andrén; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Modeling; Martensitic steel; Carbides; Carbide size distribution; Carbide volume fraction; Carbide shape factor; Modellering; Martensitiskt stål; karbider; karbidstorleksfördelning; karbidvolymfraktion; karbidformfaktor; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : In this study, the goal is to predict the microstructure evolution during and after the hot working of a martensitic stainless steel with 13% chromium using a physically-based model in the form of a MATLAB toolbox. This model is based on dislocation density theory and consists of coupled sets of evolution equations for dislocation, vacancies, recovery, recrystallization, and grain growth. READ MORE
