  1. 1. Antibiotic uptake in Gram-negative bacteria

    Author : Claudio Muheim; Daniel Daley; Jean-Marie Pagès; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gram-negative bacteria; Antibiotic uptake; Outer membrane; Lipopolysaccharide; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The increasing emergence and spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a serious threat to public health. Of particular concern are Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Acinetobacter baumannii, Klebsiella pneumoniae or Pseudomonas aeruginosa. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dendritic cell interactions with Gram negative bacteria

    Author : Mattias Svensson; Immunologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mycology; virology; Major histocompatibility complex molecules; Dendritic cells; Gram negative bacteria; Antigen processing; Antigen presentation; bacteriology; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : The interaction between murine bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (DC) and the Gram negative bacteria Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli have been characterised. These studies showed that DC phagocytosed and processed S. typhimurium and E. READ MORE

  3. 3. Inflammatory mediator response to Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria in vitro and in middle ear infections

    Author : Susann Skovbjerg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Gram-positive; Gram-negative; bacteria; cytokines; monocytes macrophages; phagocytosis; Streptococcus pneumoniae; autolysin; acute otitis media; secretory otitis media; children; probiotics;

    Abstract : Based on the structure of the cell wall, bacteria are divided into Gram-positive and Gram-negative. While the cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria is thick, the cell wall of Gram-negatives is very thin and surrounded by an outer membrane with LPS. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on Polysaccharides from some Gram-Negative Bacteria

    Author : Kurt Samuelsson; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacteria; chemical methods; food infections; polysaccharides; salmonella; Information Systems; Informatik;

    Abstract : In this survey structural studies on some polysaccharides isolated from the families of Enterobachteriaceae (Klebsiella and Salmonella) and Parvobacteriaceae (Yersinia) will be discussed. The occurence of some rare or not earlier reported deoxysugars is demonstrated, namely, 6-deoxy-D-manno-heptose, 3-deoxy-L-glycero-pentulosonic acid and five of the isomers of 3,6-dideoxy-hexoses. 5. 5. Uncovering novel cell wall chemistries in gram negative bacteria : from development or dedicated peptidoglycan chemometric tools to functional genomics

    Author : Akbar Espaillat; Felipe Cava; Sun Nyunt Wai; Waldemar Vollmer; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bacteria; cell wall; peptidoglycan; peptidoglycan variations; D-amino acids; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Bacteria are surrounded by an external cell wall whose main component is a polymeric net-like structure called the peptidoglycan (PG) or murein sacculus. PG plays crucial roles in bacterial physiology (eg morphogenesis, growth fitness and regulation of innate immunity). READ MORE
