  1. 6. Studies on Polysaccharides from some Gram-Negative Bacteria

    Author : Kurt Samuelsson; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacteria; chemical methods; food infections; polysaccharides; salmonella; Information Systems; Informatik;

    Abstract : In this survey structural studies on some polysaccharides isolated from the families of Enterobachteriaceae (Klebsiella and Salmonella) and Parvobacteriaceae (Yersinia) will be discussed. The occurence of some rare or not earlier reported deoxysugars is demonstrated, namely, 6-deoxy-D-manno-heptose, 3-deoxy-L-glycero-pentulosonic acid and five of the isomers of 3,6-dideoxy-hexoses. 3. 8. Exploring the interactions of antibiotic combinations against multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria

    Author : Anna Olsson; Thomas Tängdén; Linus Sandegren; Pernilla Lagerbäck; Joseph Meletiadis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gram-negative bacteria combination therapy antimicrobial resistence; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Antimicrobial resistance is emerging and available treatment options are lacking. Antibiotics is a cornerstone in modern medicine where medical procedures such as surgery, care of premature babies or treatment of cancer is dependent on efficient drugs. READ MORE

  4. 9. Uncovering novel cell wall chemistries in gram negative bacteria : from development or dedicated peptidoglycan chemometric tools to functional genomics

    Author : Akbar Espaillat; Felipe Cava; Sun Nyunt Wai; Waldemar Vollmer; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bacteria; cell wall; peptidoglycan; peptidoglycan variations; D-amino acids; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Bacteria are surrounded by an external cell wall whose main component is a polymeric net-like structure called the peptidoglycan (PG) or murein sacculus. PG plays crucial roles in bacterial physiology (eg morphogenesis, growth fitness and regulation of innate immunity). READ MORE

  5. 10. Optimizing membrane and secretory protein production in Gram-negative bacteria

    Author : Anna Hjelm; Jan-Willem de Gier; Alex Toftgaard Nielsen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Proteins fulfil a wide variety of essential functions in the cell. Recombinant protein production in the Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli (E. coli) facilitates structural and functional studies of proteins and it has been instrumental in biotechnology for the manufacturing of e.g. READ MORE
