  1. 1. RUNX1/AML1 functions and mechanisms regulating granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor transcription

    Author : Hebin Liu; Sven Påhlman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : RUNX1 AML1; Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor GM-CSF ; Calcineurin; CaMKII; Ets1; Transforming growth factor-b TGF-b ; Smad3; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a multipotent cytokine involved in the production and function of hematopoietic cells, and GM-CSF plays in particular a major role in responses to infection and physiological and pathological inflammatory processes. GM-CSF is produced in many cell types, and increases in the intracellular Ca2+ concentration are, like in many other systems, of major importance in the intracellular signaling that determines GM-CSF expression after receptor stimulation of the cells. 2. 2. Granulopoietic growth factors. Cytokine and cellular regulation of GM-CSF and G-CSF production

    Author : Stig Lenhoff; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; monocytes; endothelial cells; GM-CSF; G-CSF; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : Granulocyte-macrophage- (GM-) and granulocyte- (G-) colony stimulating factor (CSF) are important cytokines in the regulation of hematopoiesis and for the function of mature blood cells. They are also involved in the cytokine network regulating the inflammatory and immune response. READ MORE

  3. 3. Combined chemotherapy and immunotherapy against experimental malignant brain tumors

    Author : Sara Fritzell; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cisplatin; Glioma; GM-CSF; IFN-gamma; IL-7; Immunotherapy; Intratumoral chemotherapy; Temozolomide;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and aggressive primary malignant brain tumor in adults. Despite standard treatment including surgery, radiotherapy and temozolomide (TMZ)-based chemotherapy, the prognosis for GBM patients is dismal, and there is a need for novel treatments. READ MORE

  4. 4. Innate immunity in Staphylococcus aureus arthritis and sepsis

    Author : Margareta Verdrengh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Staphylococcus aureus; mice; sepsis; septic arthritis; neutrophils; monocytes macrophages; GM-CSF; adhesion molecules;

    Abstract : Bacterial arthritis is a severe, rapidly progressing erosive disease with high morbidity and mortality. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common causative bacterium. Granulocytes together with cells from the monocyte/macrophage lineage, are the earliest leukocytes entering the synovial tissue in response to invading staphylococci. READ MORE

  5. 5. Immunotherapy and COX-2 inhibition against malignant brain tumors

    Author : Sofia Eberstål; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Malignant brain tumors; immunotherapy; IFN-γ; GM-CSF; COX-2 inhibition;

    Abstract : Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common primary brain tumor in the central nervous system and the prognosis is very poor despite conventional therapies including surgery, chemo- and radiotherapy. Peripheral vaccination with irradiated tumor cells represent a novel therapy that targets both dividing and non-dividing tumor cells and minimizes the risk of therapy resistance by presenting multiple tumor antigens.
