  1. 1. Tacit : A research journey into the methods, processes and knowledge of graphic designers

    Author : Halldór Björn Halldórsson; Åsa Wikberg-Nilsson; Anders Warell; Johanna Lewengard; Sofie Beier; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Design; Design;

    Abstract : By exploring the potential effects of digitisation on graphic design methods, this thesis aims to highlight some of the tacit knowledge possessed by graphic designers and to show that this knowledge can both be externalised and made communicable. Beginning with an interview study where professional designers’ views were gathered and analysed, the work continued through a participatory study where designers’ knowledge was highlighted in a documented design project. 2. 2. Designing for Peer Learning : Mathematics, Games and Peer Groups in Leisure-time Centers

    Author : Åsa Harvard Maare; Sune Vork Steffensen; Kognitionsvetenskap; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Leisure-time centers; mathematics; embodied interaction; design research; motivation; observational learning; Leisure-time centers;

    Abstract : Constrained by national tests and the mathematics curriculum, teachers have problems finding time for exploratory and hands-on mathematical activities, especially so in classes with a reduced pace of progression, for example because of a large proportion of second-language learners. Could the leisure-time center, where time is not earmarked, provide such opportunities? The conclusion of this thesis is that this can be done, on the condition that designed activities build on the central premise of the leisure-time center: children have the right to choose which activities to engage with. 3. 3. Computational Methods in Conceptual Structural Design

    Author : Vedad Alic; Byggnadsmekanik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; conceptual design; conceptual structural design; ground-borne vibrations; form finding; optimization; dynamic relaxation; graphic statics; reciprocal figures; strut-and-tie; finite element method; isogeometric analysis; NURBS; CAD; numerical modelling;

    Abstract : Conceptual design is the first phase in the design process in which all the requirements and design objectives are synthesized into conceptual alternatives. In practice today, major decisions regarding the buildings function, massing, and overall form are usually made during the first phase. READ MORE

  4. 4. Developing tools for sustainability management in the graphic arts industry

    Author : Maria Enroth; Nils Enlund; Ulf Lindqvist; KTH; []

    Abstract : The main aim of this thesis is to develop and test industry-specific, applied work procedures and tools for environmental and emerging sustainability work in the graphic arts industry. This includes methods to quantify, follow-up, evaluate, manage, improve and communicate the environmental performance of activities in the graphic arts supply chain and printed products. READ MORE

  5. 5. Planning of Environments for People with Physical Disabilities Using Computer Aided Design

    Author : Joakim Eriksson; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []

    Abstract : In the area of environment adaptations for people with physical disabilities, it is of vital importance that the design is optimized considering the human-environment interactions. All involved persons in such a planning process must be given sufficient support in understanding the information, so that everyone can participate actively. READ MORE
