  1. 1. Controlling the Swedish state : Studies on formal and informal bodies of control

    Author : Isabel Schoultz; Tove Pettersson; Åström Karsten; Penny Green; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Parliamentary Ombudsman; Chancellor of Justice; United Nations; European Court of Human Rights; NGOs; control of the state; accountability; state crime; Sweden; techniques of neutralizations; problem representations; immigration; kriminologi; Criminology;

    Abstract : The dissertation aims to develop an understanding of the outcomes and limitations of formal and informal control of the Swedish state, and of the positions and strategies of the social agents involved in this field. The dissertation contributes with new perspectives on controls directed at the state, comparing various control organs (the Parliamentary Ombudsman, the Chancellor of Justice, the United Nations, the European Court of Human Rights and NGOs) and focusing on a wide range of wrongs and harms by the Swedish state. 2. 2. Prognostic markers in acute myeloid leukemia : A candidate gene approach

    Author : Ingrid Jakobsen; Kourosh Lotfi; Henrik Gréen; Anna Fyrberg; Christian Thiede; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The standard treatment of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) consists of induction chemotherapy, most commonly daunorubicin together with the nucleoside analogue cytarabine (Ara-C), followed by consolidation chemotherapy and in selected cases allogenic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT). Despite a high initial response rate, a considerable proportion of all AML cases eventually suffer from relapse and the five-year overall survival rate in patients >60 years is only around 15%. 3. 3. The Mussel Adhesive Protein (Mefp-1) : A GREEN Corrosion Inhibitor

    Author : Fan Zhang; Jinshan Pan; Douglas C. Hansen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon steel; mussel adhesive protein; Mefp-1; inhibitor; adsorption; film forming; complexation; cross-linking; ceria nanoparticle; composite film; EIS; AFM; QCM-D; ATR-FTIR; Confocal Raman Micro-spectroscopy; DFT calculation;

    Abstract : Corrosion of metallic materials is a natural process, and our study shows that even in an alkaline environment severe corrosion may occur on a carbon steel surface. While corrosion cannot be stopped it can be retarded. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies on stress in African green monkeys (Cercopithecus aethiops) : Stress associated cortisol and prolactin levels, lymphocyte modulation and pathological changes in adrenal cortex, stomach and hippocampus in the African green monkey (C. aethiops)

    Author : Mbaruk Abdalla Suleman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology and anatomy; adrenal cortex; capture; confinement; cortisol; husbandry; housing; hippocampus; lymphocytes; prolactin; stomach; stress; wild; African green monkeys; Fysiologi och anatomi; Physiology and pharmacology; Fysiologi och farmakologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : African green monkeys (AGMs) are highly susceptible to captivity-induced stress. An investigation of spontaneous deaths of laboratory confined AGMs at the Institute of Primate Research, Nairobi, Kenya over a period of 7.5 years documented mild to severe gastric mucosal erosions and ulcers in 83 of 260 (32%) necropsies. 5. 5. Transient electromagnetic pulse propagation in temporally dispersive materials

    Author : Igor Egorov; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Green functions; direct scattering; time domain; wave propagation; bi-gyrotropic; chiral; bi-isotropic; Forerunner; precursor; Green dyadics; Electronics and Electrical technology; Elektronik och elektroteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis treats the problem of transient electromagnetic pulse propagation in temporally dispersive media. The analysis is performed using time-domain techniques. In particular, the dispersive wave splitting which decouples the Maxwell equations both in vacuum and inside the medium is utilized. READ MORE
