6. Synthetic studies towards 7- and 8-membered N-heterocycles, particularly 1,4-pyrrolobenzodiazepines : total synthesis of fuligocandin A and B
Abstract : This dissertation is concerned with the synthesis of 7- and 8-membered N-heterocycles, particularly 1,4-pyrrolobenzodiazepines. A non-chromatographic method for conversion of carbonyl-functionalities to the corresponding thiocarbonyls is described. READ MORE

7. Synthetic studies of nitrogen containing heterocycles, particularly pyrazole and benzotriazine derivatives
Abstract : This thesis will mainly focus on the chemistry of nitrogen containing heterocyclic compounds, particularly pyrazole and benzotriazine and related ring systems to these compounds. The first part includes a short introduction to biologically important compounds as well as a description of reactivity and chemistry of benzo[c]pyrazole (indazole) and its derivatives. READ MORE

8. Organic Azides : Functional Molecules and Materials
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis stems from the chemistry of the azido group, and more specifically from the unique reactivity of perfluorinated aromatic azides and how to use this reactivity to access new types of molecules to enable new applications in asymmetric synthesis and materials. In the first section of this thesis, a photoactivatable fluorescence probe is presented, where the non-luminescent azide was activated via a UV-light-promoted intramolecular N–H insertion reaction forming a fluorescence emitter. 9. Photoinitiated Radical Carbonylation Using [11C]Carbon Monoxide : 11C-Labelling of Aliphatic Carboxylic Acids, Esters, and Amides
Abstract : One-step photoinitiated free radical carbonylation was employed for the rapid (5–7 min) labelling of aliphatic carboxylic acids, esters, and amides with a short-lived positron emitter 11C (t½ = 20.3 min) at the carbonyl position. The labelled compounds were synthesized from alkyl iodides (0.05–0. READ MORE

10. Application of metalation reactions for synthesis of sulfur/selenium-containing heterocyclic compounds
Abstract : This thesis deals mainly with the synthesis of various sulfur/selenium-containing heterocyclic compounds, many of which include structural features present in several biologically active molecules, with particular emphasis on compounds of synthetic importance, such as indoles, as well as other heteroaromatic species. In the first part, an efficient procedure toward synthesis of new 3-(arylthio)indoles based on reactions of aryl Grignard reagents or lithiated heteroaromatics with protected 3,3′-dithiobisindoles is described.
