  1. 1. Towards prediction in ungauged aquifers – methods for comparative regional analysis

    Author : Ezra Haaf; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Groundwater; Prediction in ungagued aquifers; Comparative hydrogeology; Similarity; Groundwater hydrographs; Groundwater dynamics; Time series clustering; Groundwater climate interaction; Classification; Regression; Groundwater storage; Groundwater resources management;

    Abstract : Hydrogeological investigations and in particular groundwater resource assessments are strongly reliant on understanding the factors controlling groundwater level dynamics. However, historical records of measured groundwater levels are often scarce and unevenly distributed in space and time. READ MORE

  2. 2. Groundwater-Seawater Interactions : Seawater Intrusion, Submarine Groundwater Discharge and Temporal Variability and Randomness Effects

    Author : Carmen Prieto; Georgia Destouni; Vassilios Kaleris; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydraulic engineering; Seawater intrusion; submarine groundwater discharge; coastal groundwater management; coastal zone management; temporal variability; temporal randomness; Vattenteknik; Water engineering; Vattenteknik;

    Abstract : Fresh groundwater quality and availability in coastal areas is affected by seawater intrusion into coastal aquifers, and coastal water quality and ecosystem status may be significantly affected by groundwater pollutants that are transported into coastal waters by submarine groundwater dis-charge (SGD). This thesis uses an overall regional perspective for investigating: i) seawater intru-sion and its possible control in sustainable coastal groundwater management; ii) SGD and its relevant quantification as one interacting part among the diverse main regional pathways of freshwater and tracer/pollutant inputs from land to sea; and iii) the integrated system functioning of both i) and ii) as main components of the same coastal groundwater system. 4. 4. Secondary currents in groundwater

    Author : Maria Engström; Bo Nordell; Sellgren Anders; Clifford Voss; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Groundwater; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : The thesis concerns the small vertical water movements created by thermal convection and the Coriolis force acting on groundwater flows. These small flows are of importance to vertical transports of temperature, nutrients and contaminants that would not be spread in the way they are. READ MORE

  5. 5. Topographic Control of Groundwater Flow

    Author : Lars Marklund; Anders Wörman; Shulan Xu; Roy Haggerty; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Groundwater; Modeling; Topography; Spectral analysis; Fourier series; Exact solu-tions; Multi-scale; Grundvatten; Modellering; Topografi; Spektralanalys; Fourier serier; Analytisk lösning; Flerskalig; Hydrology; Hydrologi; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Gravity is the main driving force for groundwater flow, and both landscape topography and geology distribute the effects of gravity on groundwater flow.  The groundwater table defines the distribution of the potential energy of the water. READ MORE
