  1. 1. Designing grinding tools to control and understand fibre release in groundwood pulping

    Author : Magnus Heldin; Urban Wiklund; Birgitta Engberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Groundwood pulping; Grinding mechanisms; Diamond grinding tool; Energy efficiency; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot tribomaterial; Engineering Science with specialization in Tribo Materials;

    Abstract : Mechanical pulping is a very energy demanding process in which only a fraction of the energy is used for the actual separation of wood fibres. The rest of the energy is lost, partly in damaging already separated fibres and partly as heat during viscoelastic deformation of the wood. READ MORE

  2. 2. GASIFICATION-BASED BIOREFINERY FOR MECHANICAL PULP MILLS

    Author : Jie He; Engstrand Per; Zhang Wennan; Olof Björkqvist; Dahlquist Erik; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Gasification; Mechanical Pulping; Bio-fuels; Power Generation; Biomass Residues; ASPEN Plus;

    Abstract : The modern concept of "biorefinery" is dominantly based on chemical pulp mills to create more value than cellulose pulp fibres, and energy from the dissolved lignins and hemicelluloses. This concept is characterized by the conversion of biomass into various biobased products. READ MORE

  3. 3. Distributions Of Fiber Characteristics As A Tool To Evaluate Mechanical Pulps

    Author : Sofia Reyier Österling; Per Engstrand; Hans Höglund; Olof Ferritsius; Rita Ferritsius; Hans Ersson; Per Gradin; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fiber; fibre; fiber characteristics; fiber dimension; fiber properties; mechanical pulp; FiberLab; raw data; distribution; fiber wall thickness; BIN; bonding ability influence; bonding indicator; bonding ability; fiber width; fibrillation; collapse resistance; laboratory sheet; fiber analyzer; optical analyzer; TMP; CTMP; SGW; sheet model; prediction; fiber characterization; hydrocyclone; fractionation; kernel density estimation; KDE; diffusion mixing; acoustic emission; F0.90; Norway spruce; Picea abies;

    Abstract : Mechanical pulps are used in paper products such as magazine or news grade printing papers or paperboard. Mechanical pulping gives a high yield; nearly everything in the tree except the bark is used in the paper. This means that mechanical pulping consumes much less wood than chemical pulping, especially to produce a unit area of printing surface. READ MORE
