  2. 2. Toward Realistic Failure Evaluations for Concrete Buttress Dams

    Author : Jonas Enzell; Anders Ansell; Erik Nordström; Andreas Sjölander; Richard Malm; Leif Lia; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; concrete dams; buttress dams; stability analysis; dam failure behavior; physical model tests; FEM; betongdammar; lamelldammar; stabilitetsanalys; dammbrott; fysiska modellförsök; FEM; Betongbyggnad; Concrete Structures;

    Abstract : Concrete dams, complex structures supporting massive loads, have traditionally been assessed using simplified 2D analytical stability analyses based on the rigid body assumption. Previous studies have shown that 3D behavior, such as the interaction between the monoliths and the valley's geology, can greatly impact the load-bearing capacity of gravity dams but remains largely unexplored in buttress dams. 3. 3. Prediction and experimental validation of dynamic soil-structure interaction of an end-bearing pile foundation in soft clay

    Author : Freddie Theland; Jean-Marc Battini; Amir Kaynia; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dynamic soil-structure interaction; Pile group; End-bearing piles; Dynamic impedance; Environmental vibration; Experimental validation; Dynamisk jord-struktur-interaktion; Pålgrupp; Spetsbärande pålar; Dynamisk impedans; Omgivningsvibrationer; Experimentell validering; Structural Engineering and Bridges; Bro- och stålbyggnad;

    Abstract : In the built environment, human activities such as railway and road traffic, constructionworks or industrial manufacturing can give rise to ground borne vibrations. Such vibrations become a concern in urban areas as they can cause human discomfort or disruption of vibration sensitive equipment in buildings. READ MORE

  4. 4. Numerical modelling considerations for analysis of concrete hydraulic structures subjected to high-frequency seismic loads

    Author : Roghayeh Abbasiverki; Anders Ansell; Erik Nordström; Richard Malm; Peter Folkow; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Betongbyggnad; Concrete Structures;

    Abstract : Concrete hydraulic structures are of great importance in today's society. When situated in areas with hard bedrock, these structures may become extra vulnerable to seismic excitations as these here are dominated by high-frequency vibrations which can have disastrous consequences for slender structures. 5. 5. Indoor Environmental Factors and its Associations with Asthma and Allergy Among Swedish Pre-School Children

    Author : Linda Hägerhed Engman; Avdelningen för Byggnadsfysik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; epidemiology; Public health; children; validation; inspections; dampness; moisture problem; questionnaire; allergy; asthma; Folkhälsa; epidemiologi; health;

    Abstract : It has been shown in a large number of scientific studies that living or working in a building with mould and moisture damage increases the risk for asthmatic and allergic symptoms. However, there is a need to establish more valid methods to obtain a more nuanced picture of the wide range of different types of moisture related problems. READ MORE
