  1. 11. Numerical methods for the Navier–Stokes equations applied to turbulent flow and to multi-phase flow

    Author : Martin Kronbichler; Gunilla Kreiss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses the numerical approximation of flow problems, in particular the large eddy simulation of turbulent flow and the simulation of laminar immiscible two-phase flow. The computations for both applications are performed with a coupled solution approach of the Navier-Stokes equations discretized with the finite element method. READ MORE

  2. 12. Summation-by-Parts Operators for High Order Finite Difference Methods

    Author : Ken Mattsson; Nordström Jan; Gunilla Kreiss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dinite difference methods; accuracy; stability; dissipation; Numerical analysis; Numerisk analys; Scientific Computing; Beräkningsvetenskap; Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : High order accurate finite difference methods for hyperbolic and parabolic initial boundary value problems (IBVPs) are considered. Particular focus is on time dependent wave propagating problems in complex domains. Typical applications are acoustic and electromagnetic wave propagation and fluid dynamics. READ MORE

  3. 13. Inflow generation for scale-resolving simulations of turbulent boundary layers

    Author : Timofey Mukha; Mattias Liefvendahl; Gunilla Kreiss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : Generating inflow fields for scale-resolving simulations of turbulent flow is crucial for a wide range of applications and is an active area of research. In this thesis, a method for inflow generation employing a precursor turbulent channel flow simulation is proposed. READ MORE

  4. 14. Stable High Order Finite Difference Methods for Wave Propagation and Flow Problems on Deforming Domains

    Author : Samira Nikkar; Jan Nordström; Gunilla Kreiss; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : We construct stable, accurate and efficient numerical schemes for wave propagation and flow problems posed on spatial geometries that are moving, deforming, erroneously described or non-simply connected. The schemes are on Summation-by-Parts (SBP) form, combined with the Simultaneous Approximation Term (SAT) technique for imposing initial and boundary conditions. READ MORE

  5. 15. Absorbing boundary techniques for the time-dependent Schrödinger equation

    Author : Anna Nissen; Gunilla Kreiss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : Chemical dissociation processes are important in quantum dynamics. Such processes can be investigated theoretically and numerically through the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, which gives a quantum mechanical description of molecular dynamics.This thesis discusses the numerical simulation of chemical reactions involving dissociation.
