  1. 1. Identifying Patterns of Emotional and Behavioural Problems in Preschool children : Facilitating Early Detection

    Author : Berit M. Gustafsson; Per A Gustafsson; Mats Granlund; Marie Proczkowska; Eva Billstedt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Mental health problems often debut in early childhood and may last throughout adulthood, thereby making early detection and intervention especially important. The overarching aim of the present thesis was to identify patterns of emotional and behavioural problems indicating mental health problems in preschool children. READ MORE

  2. 2. Psychosocial Stress, Mental Health and Salivary Cortisol in Children and Adolescents

    Author : Per E Gustafsson; Per A Gustafsson; Nina Nelson; Ingemar Engström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Stressful experiences and conditions in childhood influence the health and well-being of the growing individual, and can also confer a long-lasting impact into adult life. Delineating the social, mental and biological aspects of stress in children and adolescents is therefore of great concern for human beings. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quality of life and functional capacity among elderly with locomotor disability

    Author : Gunnel Gustafsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Aged; elderly; locomotion; disability; functional capacity; life satisfaction; assessment; quality of life; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The aims of this study were to investigate the prevalence of locomotor disturbances among elderly and the consequences for their life situation, and to test two well-documented American tools on disabled elderly.Screening tests among elderly in two Swedish counties showed that 22 per cent of those aged 60 and above reported difficulties in mobility. 4. 4. Motility of human polymorphonuclear leukocytes : An image processing approach

    Author : Mikael Gustafsson; Erik Gylfe; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Human polymorphonuclear leukocytes; locomotion; phagocytosis; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; membrane transport; intracellular free calcium; cellular pH; water influx; actin dynamics; digital video microscopy; image processing; fura-2; BCECF; DII; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Cell motility is essential for polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) function in the defense against invading microorganisms and in inflammatory processes. Using digital video microscopy and image processing, individual cells were studied during random locomotion, chemotactic locomotion and phagocytosis. READ MORE

  5. 5. Microcirculation in skeletal muscle during hypoperfusion : An experimental study regarding some psysiological and pharmacological factors influencing blood flow and oxygen pressure distributions

    Author : Urban Gustafsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The vascular bed in skeletal muscle plays an important role in the regulation of the systemic circulation. The present study was undertaken to investigate how capillary blood flow and oxygenation in skeletal muscle are affected by: a) a reduction in the levels of respiratory gases in blood, hypocapnia or hypoxia, and b) the interaction of anesthetics (pentobarbital, propofol, ketamine) during hemorrhage, and c) hypotension induced pharmacologically by adenosine, sodium nitroprusside or acetylcholine.
