  1. 1. Comfort climate evaluation with thermal manikin methods and computer simulation models

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Arbetslivsinstitutet och KTH

    Author : Håkan O. Nilsson; [2004]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; equivalent temperature; subject; thermal manikin; mannequin; thermal climate assessment; heat loss; office environment; cabin climate; ventilated seat; computer model; CFD; clothing-independent; comfort zone diagram; TECHNOLOGY Civil engineering and architecture; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : Increasing concern about energy consumption and the simultaneous need for an acceptable thermal environment makes it necessary to estimate in advance what effect different thermal factors will have on the occupants. Temperature measurements alone do not account for all climate effects on the human body and especially not for local effects of convection and radiation. READ MORE

  3. 3. Substrate water binding to the oxygen-evolving complex in photosystem II

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå Universitet

    Author : Håkan Nilsson; Johannes Messinger; Wolfgang Schröder; Robert L. Burnap; [2014]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Photosynthesis; Photosystem II; water oxidation; oxygen evolution; substrate water exchange; membrane-inlet mass spectrometry;

    Abstract : Oxygenic photosynthesis in plants, algae and cyanobacteria converts sunlight into chemical energy. In this process electrons are transferred from water molecules to CO2 leading to the assembly of carbohydrates, the building blocks of life. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experimental studies of proton translocation reactions in biological systems Electrogenic events in heme-copper oxidases

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Institutionen för biokemi och biofysik

    Author : Håkan Lepp; Peter Brzezinski; Thomas Nilsson; ; [2008]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heme-copper oxidase; cytochrome c oxidase; nitric oxide reductase; cbb3-type oxidase; proton pumping; uncoupling; charge-transfer; electrogenic event; flow-flash; TECHNOLOGY Engineering physics Biophysics; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Teknisk fysik Biofysik; Biophysics; biofysik;

    Abstract : Terminal heme-copper oxidases (HCuOs) are transmembrane proteins that catalyze the final step in the respiratory chain - the reduction of O2 to H2O, coupled to energy conservation by generation of an electrochemical proton gradient. The most extensively investigated of the HCuOs are the aa3-type oxidases, to which cytochrome c oxidase (CytcO) belongs, which uses energy released in the O2-reduction for proton pumping. READ MORE
