  1. 1. Modeling of fracture and damage in rubber under dynamic and quasi-static conditions

    Author : Elsiddig Elmukashfi; Martin Kroon; Krishnaswami Ravi-Chandar; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Elastomers are important engineering materials that have contributed to the different technical developments and applications since the 19th century. The study of crack growth mechanics for elastomers is of great importance to produce reliable products and therefore costly failures can be prevented. READ MORE

  2. 2. Influence of inhomogeneities on the tensile and compressive mechanical properties of paperboard

    Author : Anton Hagman; Mikael Nygårds; Sören Östlund; Nils Hallbäck; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Paperboard; Inhomogeneities; In-plane properties; Tension; Compression; Shear properties; Delamination; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : The in-plane properties of paperboard have always been of interest to paper scientists. Tensile properties are crucial when the board is fed through converting machines at high speeds. Compressive properties are essential in the later use. Inhomogeneities affect both the compressive and tensile properties. READ MORE

  3. 3. A fixed-lag smoother for solving joint input and state estimation problems in structural dynamics

    Author : Ulrika Lagerblad; Artem Kulachenko; Thomas Abrahamsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Joint input-state estimation; Fixed-lag smoother; Structural dynamics; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : In this thesis we have investigated different numerical filters for joint input and state estimation, with the aim of designing a robust algorithm capable of monitoring the continuous motion and loading in a truck chassis. The algorithm has to be able to use sparse measurements of the motion on different parts of the truck as it is excited by road induced vibrations, and transform this data into knowledge of the state in the entire system. 4. 4. Development of Finite Element Models for 3-D Forming Processes of Paper and Paperboard

    Author : Eric Linvill; Sören Östlund; Johan Tryding; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; 3-D forming; constitutive model; moisture; temperature; hydroforming; deep drawing; 3-D formning; finitaelement; konstitutiv modell; fukt; temperatur; hydroformning; djup dragning; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Paper materials have a long history of use in packaging products, although traditional paper-based packaging is limited in its shape and design. In order to enable more advanced paper-based packaging, various 3-D forming processes for paper materials have been studied. READ MORE

  5. 5. Reliability Assessment and Probabilistic Optimization in Structural Design

    Author : Rami Mansour; Mårten Olsson; Xioping Du; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Reliability-based design optimization RBDO ; First- and Second-Order Reliability Method FORM and SORM ; Response Surface Single Loop RSSL ; Probability of failure; Reliability Assessment; Probability of fatigue failure; Hållfasthetslära; Solid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Research in the field of reliability based design is mainly focused on two sub-areas: The computation of the probability of failure and its integration in the reliability based design optimization (RBDO) loop. Four papers are presented in this work, representing a contribution to both sub-areas. READ MORE
