1. Mobility of gold and other metals during alteration of the oceanic crust : Implications for the formation of VMS deposits
Abstract : Tremendous physical and chemical exchanges occur along oceanic ridges between the lithosphere, the hydrosphere and the biosphere. During these exchanges important mobilisation of metals by hydrothermal fluid circulation takes place within the oceanic crust. READ MORE

2. Synthesis, Structure and Bonding in Polyiodides and Binary Metal Iodide-Iodine Systems
Abstract : Polyiodides and binary metal iodide-iodine compounds have been prepared and investigated by means of X-ray diffraction, EXAFS, far-IR, Raman, UV-vis and NMR spectroscopy and quantum chemical calculations. (Et3S)[AuI4].2I2 and (Me3S)[Cd2I6]1/2. READ MORE

3. The changing path of inguinal hernia surgery
Abstract : Inguinal hernia repair is the most common operation in general surgery and the main challenge has been to lower the recurrence rate. With the introduction of endoscopic repair in the beginning of the 1990´s, the demand for randomised controlled studies has increased resulting in a growing interest in this surgical field. READ MORE

4. Time-resolved x-ray diffraction of nanostructured samples
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis is based on time-resolved x-ray diffraction studies of InSb (111) samples. The experiments were carried out using a pump-probe configuration using short laser pulses as the pump and x-rays as the probe. Laser excitation leads to the formation of a strain pulse that propagates through the sample. READ MORE

5. Microsystems based on polypyrrole microactuators : microrobots and cell clinics
Abstract : Conducting polymers like polypyrrole (PPy) are suitable materials for actuators. PPy undergoes a volume change, driven by redox processes accompanied by ion movement. This volume change is reversible. By combining PPy with a support and/or electrode layer into a bilayer, actuators can be made. READ MORE
