  1. 1. Microsystems based on polypyrrole microactuators : microrobots and cell clinics

    Author : Edwin W. H. Jager; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Conducting polymers like polypyrrole (PPy) are suitable materials for actuators. PPy undergoes a volume change, driven by redox processes accompanied by ion movement. This volume change is reversible. By combining PPy with a support and/or electrode layer into a bilayer, actuators can be made. READ MORE

  2. 2. Epitaxial thin films of group 4 transition metal diborides

    Author : Claudia Schnitter; Hans Högberg; Johanna Rosén; Paul H. Mayrhofer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Group 4 transition metal diboride films were deposited epitaxially onto different substrates, typically at 900 °C, using direct-current magnetron sputtering from compound targets of ZrB2, TiB2, and HfB2. Epitaxial ZrB2 has been deposited on Al2O3(0001), 4H-SiC(0001), and Si(100) describing the epitaxial relationships on Si(100) for the first time, where two relationships were observed from pole-figure analysis, namely A) in-plane: ZrB2[001] ∥ Si[110] and ZrB2[110] ∥ Si[110], out-of-plane: ZrB2(100) ∥ Si(100), and B) in-plane: ZrB2[11] ∥ Si[110] and the same rotated 90° around the 102 axis, out-of- plane: ZrB2(102) ∥ Si(100). 3. 3. Metallacyclic Phosphine Complexes and Intramolecular Csp3-H Bond Activation -Synthesis, Characterisation and Catalytic Application

    Author : Sven Sjövall; Kemiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; catalysis; Heck; diphosphite; diphosphine; phosphine; cyclometallation; C-C activation; C-O activation; C-H activation; palladium; rhodium; iridium; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with metallacyclic late transition metal complexes, obtained by intramolecular Csp3-H activation, and the application of such compounds in catalysis. The new hemilabile P,O phosphines N-methyl-N-propionyl-2-(diphenylphosphino)benzylamine (DPPAM), o-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid ethyl ester (DPPES), o-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid methyl ether (DPPET) and ±-1-(2- diphenylphosphino)phenylethyl propionate (±-DPPMES) and the symmetrical diphosphorus donor ligands cis-1,3-bis[(diphenylphosphino)methyl]-cyclohexane (DPCY), cis-1,3-bis[(di-tertbutylphosphino)methyl]cyclohexane (DTBCY) and cis-1,3-bis[(di-isopropylphosphino)methyl]cyclohexane (DIPCY) have been synthesised, allowing the preparation of a range of new metallacyclic rhodium(III), iridium(III) and palladium(II) complexes. 4. 4. Bounds on Hilbert Functions and Betti Numbers of Veronese Modules

    Author : Ornella Greco; Mats Boij; Maria Evelina Rossi; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Hilbert function; Betti numbers; Veronese modules; Pinched veronese; h-vectors; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : The thesis is a collection of four papers dealing with Hilbert functions and Betti numbers.In the first paper, we study the h-vectors of reduced zero-dimensional schemes in  . In particular we deal with the problem of findingthe possible h-vectors for the union of two sets of points of given h-vectors. READ MORE

  5. 5. On Active Secondary Suspension in Rail Vehicles to Improve Ride Comfort

    Author : Anneli Orvnäs; Sebastian Stichel; Rickard Persson; Roger Goodall; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; rail vehicle; active secondary suspension; ride comfort; sky-hook damping; H∞ control; multi-body simulations; on-track tests; Järnvägsgruppen - Gröna tåget; Järnvägsgruppen - Gröna tåget; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik;

    Abstract : One way to make rail vehicles a competitive means of transportation is to increase running speed. However, higher speeds usually generate increased forces and accelerations on the vehicle, which have a negative effect on ride comfort. With conventional passive suspension, it may be difficult to maintain acceptable passenger comfort. READ MORE
