  1. 1. Mechanism of enzymes involved in leukotriene C4 biosynthesis

    Author : H R Shabbir Ahmad; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Cysteinyl leukotrienes (cys-LTs) are potent proinflammatory mediators associated with various diseases including asthma and allergic rhinitis. Leukotriene C4 synthase (LTC4S) and microsomal glutathione transferase 2 (MGST2) catalyze conjugation of the epoxide intermediate LTA4 with GSH to form LTC4, the parent compound of the cys-LTs. 2. 2. Optimal timing decisions in financial markets

    Author : Martin Vannestål; Erik Ekström; Luis H. R. Alvarez E.; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; optimal stopping; American options; optimal stopping games; incomplete information; Mathematics; Matematik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of an introduction and five articles. A common theme in all the articles is optimal timing when acting on a financial market. The main topics are optimal selling of an asset, optimal exercising of an American option, optimal stopping games and optimal strategies in trend following trading. READ MORE

  3. 3. Studies on Cell Injury Induced by Hypoxia-Reoxygenation and Oxidized Low Density Lipoprotein : With Special Reference to the Protectiove Effect of Mixed Tocopherols, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Transforming Growth Factor-beta1

    Author : Hongjiang Chen; Tom Saldeen; Christer Sylven; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Hypoxia-reoxygenation (H-R) injury is an important clinical phenomenon in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Endothelial injury is a critical step in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis. Therefore, endothelial and cardiomyocyte protection has been considered an effective step in prevention and treatment of CAD. READ MORE

  4. 4. Redox-regulation of PTPs : mechanisms and impact on PDGFR signaling

    Author : Markus Dagnell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) are reversibly oxidized upon activation of platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta (PDGFβR). Dys-regulation of the PDGFβR signaling pathway is associated with several diseases, including cancers and cardiovascular disease, and is thus a known driver of disease progression. READ MORE

  5. 5. Contributions to certain problems in algebraic topology

    Author : Juan M. Alonso; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Algebraisk topologi;

    Abstract : We consider two problems. The first one is to determine when a fibration is also a (homotopy) cofibration. We use a classic result of T. Ganea to give a complete algebraic solution. READ MORE
