1. Palladium Catalysis in Directed C-H Bond Activation and Cycloisomerisation Reactions
Abstract : The main focus of this thesis concerns the development of Pd(II)-catalysed synthetic methodologies for the preparation of biologically active compounds. In the first part (paper I-III), unactivated C–H bonds of a cyclobutane derivative are selectively functionalised using a directing group starting from the feedstock compound verbenone (paper I). 2. Novel Pincer Complex-Catalyzed Transformations : Including Asymmetric Catalysis
Abstract : This thesis is focused on the development of new pincer complex-catalyzed transformations. Optimization of the catalytic properties (fine-tuning) was directed to increase the catalytic activity as well as the chemo-, stereo- and enantioselectivity of the complexes. READ MORE

3. Metallacyclic Phosphine Complexes and Intramolecular Csp3-H Bond Activation -Synthesis, Characterisation and Catalytic Application
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis deals with metallacyclic late transition metal complexes, obtained by intramolecular Csp3-H activation, and the application of such compounds in catalysis. The new hemilabile P,O phosphines N-methyl-N-propionyl-2-(diphenylphosphino)benzylamine (DPPAM), o-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid ethyl ester (DPPES), o-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid methyl ether (DPPET) and ±-1-(2- diphenylphosphino)phenylethyl propionate (±-DPPMES) and the symmetrical diphosphorus donor ligands cis-1,3-bis[(diphenylphosphino)methyl]-cyclohexane (DPCY), cis-1,3-bis[(di-tertbutylphosphino)methyl]cyclohexane (DTBCY) and cis-1,3-bis[(di-isopropylphosphino)methyl]cyclohexane (DIPCY) have been synthesised, allowing the preparation of a range of new metallacyclic rhodium(III), iridium(III) and palladium(II) complexes. 4. Development of New Synthetic Routes to Organoboronates by Catalytic Allylic Substitution and C-H bond Functionalization
Abstract : This thesis describes the development of new catalytic methods for the synthesis and application of organometallic reagents, mainly focusing on allylboronic acid derivatives. Thus, palladium pincer-complex catalysis has been applied for extending the scope of palladiumcatalyzed borylation reactions in the synthesis of regio- and stereodefined functionalized allylboronic acid derivatives. 5. Catalysis in Dynamic Systems: Control within Molecular Reaction Networks
Abstract : Life as we know it is based on complex networks of biochemical reactions that constantly interact within large dynamic systems. The field of systems chemistry uses chemical models to study how reaction networks – and thereby life – function on a molecular level. READ MORE
