  1. 1. The Origin of the Genus Flavivirus and the Ecology of Tick-Borne Pathogens

    Author : John H.-O. Pettersson; Thomas Jaenson; Sven Bergström; Kenneth Nilsson; Mikael Thollesson; Per-Eric Lindgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Flavivirus; Virus dating; Molecular dating; Biogeography; Ixodes ricinus; Minimum infection rate; TBE; Tick-borne encephalitis virus; Rickettsia helvetica; Anaplasma phagocytophilum; Infection prevalence; RT-PCR; Biology with specialization in Systematics; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik;

    Abstract : The present thesis examines questions related to the temporal origin of the Flavivirus genus and the ecology of tick-borne pathogens. In the first study, we date the origin and divergence time of the Flavivirus genus. It has been argued that the first flaviviruses originated after the last glacial maximum. READ MORE

  2. 2. Routine procedures in the care of the full-term newborn

    Author : Miriam Pettersson; Mats H. Eriksson; Andreas Ohlin; Fredrik Ahlsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Newborn; pain; neonatal hyperbilirubinemia; home phototherapy; neonatal hip examination; oral sweet solution; pain assessment;

    Abstract : This thesis presents four studies on routine procedures used in the care of the full-term newborn. The overall aim of the thesis was to study the effects of these routines and endeavour to find ways to improve them.Study I, an observational study, included 28 healthy newborns, assessing pain during neonatal hip examination. Abstract : This thesis describes the development of liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) methods for the trace analysis of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and their metabolites in aqueous environmental matrices. The research was focused on the development of chiral LC-MS/MS methods for the analysis of fluoxetine and metoprolol, as well as their chiral metabolites in environmental water samples. READ MORE

  4. 4. Staphylococcal enterotoxin H - structure and function of a superantigen

    Author : Helen Pettersson; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunology; TCR; staphylococcal enterotoxin H; MHC class II; superantigen; transplantation; Immunologi; serologi; serology;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to characterise the biological functions of the superantigen staphylococcal enterotoxin H (SEH). Superantigens are highly immunostimulatory proteins, which crosslink T cells and antigen presenting cells (APCs). READ MORE

  5. 5. Simulation of Core-Level Spectra of H-bonded Systems

    Author : Iurii Zhovtobriukh; Lars G.M. Pettersson; Anders Nilsson; Marcus Lundberg; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water; x-ray absorption; non-resonant x-ray emission; damped linear response theory; time-dependent density functional theory; semi-classical approximation to Kramers-Heisenberg formula; Reverse Monte-Carlo; kemisk fysik; Chemical Physics;

    Abstract : The thesis consists of three related projects where attempts have been made to simulate X-Ray Absorption (XAS) spectra of water and hexagonal ice, static non-resonant X-ray Emission (XES) spectrum of water and to apply the semi-classical approximation to Kramers-Heisenberg formula (SCKH) formalism to calculate the non-resonant XES spectrum of water and methanol. The first project is devoted to an investigation of the performance of damped response theory in combination with the DFT electronic structure method (CPP-DFT) in XAS spectrum simulations of liquid water.
