1. Sputtering of Precursors for Cu2ZnSnS4 Solar Cells and Application of Cadmium Free Buffer Layers
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to understand the influence of the deposition process and resulting film properties on Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin film solar cells. Two main aspects are studied, namely formation of absorber precursors by sputtering, and alternative Cd-free buffer materials with improved band alignment. READ MORE

2. Microbial remediation of heavy metal ion polluted soil and water
Abstract : Contamination of soil and water by heavy metal ions (HMs) is a problem all over the world. The use of biological methods alone or in combination with other techniques for treatment of such polluted sites constitutes a major challenge. READ MORE

3. Microstructure and Wear of CVD Coatings used in Metal Cutting Applications
Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the microstructural characterisation of wear resistant Al2O3 and Ti(C,N)coatings produced by chemical vapour deposition on cemented carbide cutting tools. The investigation focuses on the effect of deposition conditions on the microstructure and the microstructural evolution of the coatings during heat-treatments and metal cutting. READ MORE

4. Investigation of Coordination Modes of Organosulfur Ligands to osmium and Rhodium Carbonyl Clusters- Possible Relevance to Hydrodesulfurization Reactions
Abstract : The coordination and fundamental transformations of organosulfur compounds to polynuclear metal complexes has been studied as models for possible surface species in industrial HDS processes. Reactions between [Os3(CO)11(NCMe)] and various thiols have been studied by UV-Vis, IR and NMR spectroscopy and all experimental findings indicate that the reactions proceed via a two-step consecutive process involving the intermediate [Os3(CO)11(RSH)], which contains an agostic Os-H-S interaction, and which leads to the formation of the final product [Os3(CO)10(m-H)(m-SR)]. 5. Molecular filtration : the study of adsorbents
Abstract : Adsorbent materials for gas purification have been studied and developed for application in many areas. It is known that a single adsorbent may not adequately control multiple contaminants. Therefore, the development of adsorbent materials has accelerated over the past two decades, and is today an area attracting a lot of attention. READ MORE
