  1. 1. Immune modulation in chronic HBV and HCV infection

    Author : Catharina Hultgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HBV; HBeAg; HCV; NS3; chronic infection; humoral cellular immune response; Th1 Th2 cells; proliferative response;

    Abstract : Chronic viral hepatitis is a major health problem worldwide. The two major viral causes for chronic hepatitis are the hepatitis B (HBV) and C viruses (HCV). HBV is a DNA virus with a rather limited genetic variability whereas HCV is an RNA virus with a high genetic variability. READ MORE

  2. 2. Chronic hepatitis B in children

    Author : Ann Söderström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Chronic hepatitis B affects more than 350 million people. In areas of high and intermediate endemicity, hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is mainly contracted in the perinatal period or early childhood, and many of them become chronic carriers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hepatitis B virus infection and genomic changes from a long-term perspective

    Author : Jonas Bläckberg; Sektion III; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Infektioner; Infections; cor promoter; precore; occult infection; HBV; mutation;

    Abstract : Hepatitis B virus is a non-cytopathic virus with a small, circular, partially double-stranded DNA of 3.2 kb. It causes acute and chronic inflammatory liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Retesting of stored sera from an outbreak of acute hepatitis in 1969-72 allowed identification of 126 cases of acute hepatitis B. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hepatitis B virus replication and integration

    Author : Simon B. Larsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hepatitis B virus; replication; integration; HBV DNA; HBsAg;

    Abstract : Chronic infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) affects 240 million people worldwide and may cause liver disease including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Initially patients have high levels of HBV DNA in their blood, no liver disease and express the e antigen (HBeAg). READ MORE

  5. 5. Real-time PCR studies of genotypes, mutations and replication of hepatitis B virus

    Author : Sebastian Malmström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hepatitis B virus; real-time PCR; lamivudine resistance; genotypes; replication;

    Abstract : Infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an important cause of liver disease and affects 350 million people worldwide, causing 600,000 deaths/year. Treatment includes interferon and nucleoside analogues (NAs) such as lamivudine, entecavir, and tenofovir. READ MORE
