  1. 6. Prevention and treatment of hepatitis B virus infection

    Author : Per Sangfelt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Hepatitis B virus; vaccination; treatment; interferon-alpha; larnivudine; famciclovir;

    Abstract : Despite 25 years of effective vaccines and availability of treatment options for 15 years, hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections continue to be a major global health problem. In Sweden, selective screening and vaccination programmes are used in defined high-risk groups such as newborns of chronic HBV carrier mothers and health care workers with risk of blood exposure. 2. 7. Chronic hepatitis B : immunological, virological and clinical aspects in the natural course and during the combined prednisolone and interferon-alpha-2b therapy

    Author : Guo-Zhong Fei; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : HBV; IgM and IgG anti-preS2; IgM anti-HBc; CD4 CD8 ratio; lymphocyte subpopulations; HBV DNA; ALT; chronic hepatitis; prednisolone; interferon-alpha;

    Abstract : The aims of this study were to characterize the IgM and IgG antibody responses to well-defined B-cell epitopes within the preS2 region of the HBV envelope proteins in sera from Chinese and Caucasian patients with chronic HBV infection in relation to viral load and liver disease activity. In addition, the effects of the combined prednisolone and interferon- alpha-2b therapy on these parameters, as well as on the peripheral lymphocyte subsets, were studied in Chinese patients with chronic hepatitis B. 3. 8. Genetic variability of hepatitis B virus in chronic infection

    Author : Charles Hannoun; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hepatitis B virus; mutation; genotype; phylogeny; ; Recombination; coinfection; interferon; response;

    Abstract : Chronic hepatitis B is a major health problem, and may lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The liver damage in hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is considered to be a result of the immune response, and not a cytopathic effect of the virus itself. READ MORE

  4. 9. Hepatitis B virus RNA in serum and liver tissue - quantification using digital PCR

    Author : Kasthuri Prakash; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hepatitis B virus; NTCP; HBV DNA; HBV RNA; subviral particles; integrations; droplet digital PCR;

    Abstract : Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a global health issue that is responsible for approximately 900,000 deaths each year, by inducing liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). A few markers are used to classify HBV infection and monitor treatment efficacy, including HBV DNA, surface antigen (HBsAg) and e antigen (HBeAg) in serum as well as HBV DNA and RNA in liver tissue. 5. 10. Viral and host determinants in hepatitis B

    Author : Hossein Sendi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The outcome of hepatitis B infection is highly variable, ranging from acute disease resulting in the elimination of infection to persistent infection that can lead to cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma. The factors determining the outcome in an individual are not fully known but may be classified into viral and host factors. READ MORE
