  1. 16. Combustion Sensing Methods - in Theory and Practice

    Author : Martin Larsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Internal combustion engines; HCCI; combustion measurements; measurement techniques; SI; signal processing; pressure sensors; ion current sensors;

    Abstract : Accurate, reliable sensors are essential parts of any control system, and there are increasing needs for feedback systems to monitor and control key parameters of automotive internal combustion engines, operating in various combustion modes and configurations, to reduce fuel consumption and engine-out emissions. Thus, there are strong motives for studying combustion sensors. READ MORE

  2. 17. Studies on the Load Range of an HCCI Engine using In-Cylinder Pressure, Ion Current and Optical Diagnostics

    Author : Andreas Vressner; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ion current; knock; laser ignition; chemiluminescence imaging; LES; temperature stratification; PLIF; auto igntion; flame propagation; HCCI; diagnostics; low temperature combustion;

    Abstract : Internal combustion engines are continuously developed towards decreased hazardous emissions and lower fuel consumption. The homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine is a promising concept which combines the best features of the Diesel engine and the spark ignition (SI) engine. READ MORE

  3. 18. Closed-Loop Combustion Control of a Multi Cylinder HCCI Engine using Variable Compression Ratio and Fast Thermal Management

    Author : Göran Haraldsson; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CR; Motorer; framdrivningssystem; Motors and propulsion systems; Teknik; Technological sciences; Closed-Loop Combustion Control; CLCC; Multi cylinder; HCCI; Black box; System identification; State feedback; PID; LQG; Fast Thermal Management; FTM; VCR Variable Compression Ratio;

    Abstract : The current Spark Ignited (SI) engine equipped with three-way catalyst offers low emissions, but has low efficiency at part load, which results in unnecessarily high CO2 emissions. The Compression Ignited (CI) engines have higher efficiency and hence lower CO2 emissions, but suffer from higher Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions, and no three-way catalyst can be used. 4. 19. On the Impact of Piston Motion and In-Cylinder Charge Composition on Energy Release, Auto Ignition and Emission Formation in Premixed Charge Internal Combustion Engines

    Author : Ola Stenlåås; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bränslen; sprängämnen; Carbochemistry; petrochemistry; fuels and explosives technology; Petrokemi; Internal Combustion Engine; Emission; SI; Spark Ignition; HCCI; Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition; zone model; Chemical Kinetic; Engine simulation; Reformed Methanol; Hydrogen; Knock; Auto Ignition; NO; Piston Motion; Nitric Oxide; Premixed Charge;

    Abstract : The results presented in this thesis can be divided into four areas of investigation: Investigation of the effect of new volume-crank angle relations on engine emissions, power and efficiency; investigation of nitrogen oxides effect on auto ignition and knock in SI engines; investigation of premixed SI and HCCI engine operation with the alternative fuels hydrogen and reformed methanol gas (RMG); software development of a detailed chemical kinetics zonal engine model. Model development of the in-house two-zone chemical kinetic code focused on expansion of the Jacobian matrix to allow simulations of variable in-cylinder charge. READ MORE

  5. 20. A Combustion Concept for Future Heavy-Duty Diesel Engines

    Author : Tobias Husberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Diesel combustion; Common rail; Diesel engines; Multiple injections; Combustion concept; Heavy-duty;

    Abstract : The Diesel engine has been intensively developed by manufacturers and researchers since 1892, when it was invented. However, the direction of its development has shifted in recent years.Environmental issues are becoming increasingly important in our society, prompting more efforts to be put into making the engines cleaner.
