  1. 21. Experimental combination therapy of brain cancer cell models

    Author : Ana-Maria Marino; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Epigenetic alterations and aberrant expression of genes controlling epigenetic mechanisms have been identified in several cancers, including medulloblastoma and glioma, the most common primary brain tumors in children and adults, respectively. We have been investigating if combination therapy using histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) and receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors (RTKi) will enhance glioblastoma and medulloblastoma cell killing. 2. 22. Tumour Survival Signals and Epigenetic Gene Silencing in Multiple Myeloma : Implications for Biology and Therapy

    Author : Charlotte Fristedt Duvefelt; Helena Jernberg-Wiklund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Multiple myeloma; Polycomb; apoptosis; cIAP2; IAP-inbibitors; proteasome inhibitors; LBH589; PPP; DZNep;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on multiple myeloma (MM), a haematological malignancy that still remains incurable. The pathogenesis of MM is not fully understood and there is a large intra-tumour and interclonal genetic variation in MM patients. READ MORE

  3. 23. Translational studies of metastatic melanoma in the era of immunotherapy - from humanized mouse models to clinical trials

    Author : Henrik Jespersen; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Metastatic melanoma; Uveal melanoma; Humanized mouse models; Immunotherapy; Chimeric antigen receptor T cells; PD-1 inhibition; Epigenetics; Histone deacetylase inhibition;

    Abstract : Immunotherapy with PD-1 inhibitors has transformed the treatment of met-astatic cutaneous mela- noma, and can lead to complete and durable responses in a proportion of patients. However, in around half of the patients, the treatment has little or no effect. READ MORE

  4. 24. Studies of the role of cytomegalovirus infection in inflammation and cancer

    Author : Klas Strååt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a widespread disease-causing agent belonging to the herpesvirus family. After a primary infection HCMV establishes latency within its host, from which the virus may reactivate throughout life. READ MORE

  5. 25. Using genetics to identify epigenetic and signal transduction targets in cancer

    Author : Joydeep Bhadury; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cancer; BETi; HDACi; ATRi; miRNA; NGS; PDX; CDX;

    Abstract : Cancer arises mostly due to the stepwise acquisition of untamed growth capabilities by various means, ranging from genetic, epigenetic to environmental factors. With the advancement made in molecular biology and associated fields, the complex biological circuits leading to these pathological conditions have now started to be deciphered in-depth. READ MORE
