  1. 16. Aspects of immunogenetics, infections, and nutrition on the risk of celiac disease autoimmunity in an Ethiopian pediatric birth cohort

    Author : Adugna Negussie Gudeta; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; celiac disease; HLA-DQ2; HLA-DQ8; infection; diet;

    Abstract : Background: Celiac disease (CD) is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease of the intestine in genetically susceptible individuals caused by loss of tolerance to the storage proteins (gluten) in wheat, rye, and barley. Little is known about CD and associated risk factors in Sub-Saharan African countries including Ethiopia. READ MORE

    Abstract : Polyglandular Autoimmune (PGA) syndrome type II in idiopathic Addison's disease: In a retrospective study of idiopathic Ad-dison's disease (median age at diagnosis 32.5 years, range 8-62; median observation time 17 years, range 0.5-41), 50% met the criteria for PGA syndrome type II. In PGA syndrome type II, 73% had ATD and 41% had IDDM. READ MORE

  3. 18. Aspects of ZnT8 autoimmunity in childhood type 1 diabetes

    Author : Cecilia K Andersson; Pediatrisk endokrinologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; Zinc transporter; ZnT8 autoantibodies; HLA; islet cell autoantibodies; GAD65 autoantibodies; IA-2 autoantibodies; insulin autoantibodies; glucose tolerance;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in childhood and adolescence with an increasing incidence worldwide. It is an autoimmune disease with many autoimmune markers, where the zinc transporter 8 autoantibody (ZnT8A) is the most recent autoantibody discovered. READ MORE

  4. 19. Genetic interaction between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    Author : Haiyan Li; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []

    Abstract : There are two major types of diabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes. Similarly characterized by hyperglycaemia and long term micro- and macrovascular complications, type 1 and type 2 diabetes have different underlying pathophysiologic processes. In Scandinavia, type 1 diabetes is common; type 2 diabetes accounts for 85% of all cases with diabetes. READ MORE

  5. 20. Genetic markers in rheumatoid arthritis

    Author : Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; family history; genetic marker; HLA B27; HLA DR4; properdin factor B; C3 complement; -antitrypsin; haptoglobin; transferrin;

    Abstract : Genetic as well as environmental factors are believed to be of importance in the etiology of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). There are a number of previous studies of genetic markers in RA, but so far no genetic linkage and only a few associations have been found. Of the associations only one (with the HLA antigen DR4) appears to be well documented. READ MORE
