  1. 21. Tuning Properties of Surfaces and Nanoscopic Objects using Dendronization and Controlled Polymerizations

    Author : Emma Östmark; Eva Malmström; Heikki Tenhu; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dendrimers; dendronized polymers; cellulose; Atom Transfer Radical Polymerization; Ring-Opening Polymerization; surface modification; grafting; superhydrophobic; amphiphilic polymer; block copolymer; Atomic Force Microscopy; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : In this study, dendronization and grafting via controlled polymerization techniques, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and ring-opening polymerization (ROP), have been explored. Modification of surfaces and cellulose using these techniques, which enable grafting of well-defined polymer architectures, has been investigated. READ MORE

  2. 22. Ductility in high performance concrete structures : an experimental investigation and a theoretical study of prestressed hollow core slabs and prestressed cylindrical poles

    Author : Henrik Gabrielsson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Structural Engineering; Konstruktionsteknik;

    Abstract : The thesis presents results from a project dealing with ductility in high performance concrete structures. The main objectives were to investigate the material and structural ductility/brittleness of prestressed structural elements of High Performance Concrete (HPC). READ MORE

  3. 23. Implementation of complex polarization propagator theory for linear response properties of large molecular systems

    Author : Manuel Brand; Patrick Norman; Berta Fernández Rodríguez; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Theoretical Chemistry and Biology; Teoretisk kemi och biologi;

    Abstract : Since its beginning, the remarkable development from the first commercially available computers toward exascale supercomputers just within the span of a lifetime has been closely intertwined with the perpetual quest for the utilization of the arising computing power for the avail of theoretical chemistry. With the aim of further pushing the limits of computationally accessible molecular system sizes, this thesis includes the presentation of programming efforts, which brought forth two quantum chemical software codes, as well as a range of ab initio studies on carbon-based systems, enabled by the former.
