  1. 1. Neutrino Oscillations and Charged Higgs Bosons – Experimental Projects for Physics beyond the Standard Model

    Author : Christian Hansen; Tord Ekelöf; Blair Ratcliff; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; CERN; LHC; ATLAS; charged; Higgs; SUSY; MSSM; oscillating; neutrino; RICH; CNGS; HPD; Elementarpartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on work done in two different experimental projects. The first project, the Tau RICH, is a previously proposed τ-neutrino appearance experiment for the CERN neutrino beam at the Gran Sasso laboratory in Italy. The proposed experimental concept is based on the use of focusing RICH detectors with liquid radiator (C6F14). READ MORE

  2. 2. Acoustical properties of earplugs

    Author : Per Hiselius; Teknisk akustik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; vibration and acoustic engineering; vacuum technology; hydraulics; Mechanical engineering; acoustic modelling; objective measurement; insertion loss; earplugs; HPE; HPD; hearing protectors; Two-Port; Four-Pole; attenuation; electro acoustics; acoustics;

    Abstract : In this study an experimental setup for measurements of high impedance objects in ducts, yielding the acoustical Two-Port properties of the object, is applied to earplugs. A frequently used experimental setup for measuring objective acoustical properties of earplugs is that of artificial ears. Great effort is spent on duplicating the human ear. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sexual function in women with neurological disorders

    Author : Birgitta Hulter; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; diabetes mellitus; hypothalamus; IDDM; libido; lubrication; menstruation; multiple sclerosis; orgasm; perception; perspiration; pituitary; prolactin; quality of life; satisfaction; sensation; sexual dysfunction; sexuality; testosterone; vibration; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of this investigation was to study sexual function in women with neurological disorders at fairly distinct and separate locations. The dissertation comprises descriptive, retrospective, quantitative studies on sexual functioning in women with hypothalamo-pituitary disorders (HPD) (n:48), multiple sclerosis (MS)(n:47), and insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) (n:42). 4. 4. Structural studies of protein : protein complexes in the early secretory pathway

    Author : Maria Svärd; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis, components of three different protein-protein complexes in the early secretory pathway have been studied by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography, with the aim of giving detailed structural information on each protein and gaining a deeper insight into the molecular mechanisms by which each protein performs its function and interactions. The work has resulted in the three-dimensional structures of MCFD2, a protein involved in transport of coagulation factors V and VIII, Erv41p, a vesicle protein proposed to play a role in glycoprotein processing and transport, and the co-chaperone P58IPK. 5. 5. Genetic organization of encapsulated and non-encapsulated Haemophilus influenzae strains. Analysis of the glpTQ and 23S rRNA operons

    Author : Xin-Ming Song; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; intervening sequence; 23S rRNA; transcription; DNA sequence; glpT; Haemophilus influenzae; glpQ; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Encapsulated Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and non-encapsulated H. influenzae (NTHi) are important pathogens causing invasive and mucosal infections in children. A 42 kDa surface-exposed lipoprotein, protein D, has been found to be a potential virulence factor of NTHi. READ MORE
