  1. 1. Breast cancer : Multifocality, heterogeneity, and related genetic signatures

    Author : Gyula Pekar; Dumanski Jan; Sapino Anna; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : breast; breast cancer multifocality; molecular phenotypes; intertumoral heterogeneity; biobanking; gene copy number aberrations;

    Abstract : Breast carcinoma often exhibits a complex subgross morphology and may occupy a large volume of the breast tissue and show unifocal, multifocal or diffuse growth patterns. Expression of estrogen- and progesterone receptors, HER2 overexpression, tumor grade, and proliferative activity allows us to classify breast carcinoma into molecular subgroups (Luminal A, Luminal B, HER2-type, triple negative, and basal-like). 2. 2. Calcitonin gene-related peptide in temporomandibular inflammation

    Author : Joakim Carleson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : CGRP; Calcitonin gene-related peptide; neuropeptides; inflammation; temporomandibular joint; masseter muscle; TMJ; TMD; nociception; scratching; neurogenic inflammation.;

    Abstract : Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is an important biological mediator and cell-signalling molecule, involved in modulation of the immune system, inflammatory response and pain modulation. During pain and inflammation, sensory nerves are activated, and sensory neuropeptides such as CGRP is released from peripheral and central nerve endings. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quartz in Swedish iron foundries : exposure and cancer risk

    Author : Lena Andersson; Håkan Westberg; Gunilla Lindström; Per Gustavsson; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Case-control study; crystalline silica; exposure assessment; iron foundry; lung cancer; morbidity; occupational hygiene; respirable quartz; Enviromental Science; Miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : The aims of the studies underlying this thesis were to assess the exposure to quartz in Swedish iron foundries and to determine the cancer morbidity for Swedish foundry workers. A cohort of 3,045 foundry workers and a final measurement database of 2,333 number of samples was established. READ MORE

  4. 4. Inflammatory bowel disease : determinants related to gut microbiota

    Author : Ali Kiasat; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic and idiopathic disorder that causes inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. Overall, it can be classified into two types: ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD). READ MORE

  5. 5. Survival and treatment related toxicity in classical Hodgkin lymphoma

    Author : Ingemar Lagerlöf; Daniel Molin; Graham Collins; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hodgkin lymphoma; combined modality; late effects; treatment toxicity; radiotherapy; chemotherapy; long-term; follow-up; relative survival; years of life lost; excess mortality; excess morbidity; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Treating early-stage classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) by adding radiotherapy to chemotherapy gives better disease control compared to chemotherapy only. With a low median age at diagnosis, the risk from cHL needs to be weighed against the risk of treatment toxicity. READ MORE
