    Abstract : During face-to-face meetings, humans use multimodal information, including verbal information, visual information, body language, facial expressions, and other non-verbal gestures. In contrast, during computer-mediated-communication (CMC), humans rely either on mono-modal information such as text-only, voice-only, or video-only or on bi-modal information by using audiovisual modalities such as video teleconferencing. 2. 7. Face Recognition : A Single View Based HMM Approach

    Author : Hung Son Le; Haibo Li; Josef Bigun; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; face recognition; pattern recognition; computer vision; HMM; Hidden Markov Models; contrast enhancement; pyramid fusion; image processing; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : This dissertation addresses the challenges of giving computers the ability of doing face recognition, i.e. discriminate between different faces. Face recognition systems are commonly trained with a database of face images, becoming “familiar” with the given faces. READ MORE

  3. 8. Interpolation Techniques with Applications in Video Coding

    Author : Jens Ogniewski; Per-Erik Forssén; Haibo Li; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Recent years have seen the advent of RGB+D video (color+depth video), which enables new applications like free-viewpoint video, 3D and virtual reality. This is however achieved by adding additional data, thus increasing the bitrate. READ MORE

  4. 9. Football on mobile phones : algorithms, architectures and quality of experience in streaming video

    Author : Jiong Sun; Haibo Li; Fernando Pereira; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Electrical engineering; Quality of Experience; Wyner-Ziv coding; Universal Multimedia Access; motion estimation; Dynamic Programming; traffic prediction; utility function; vibrotactile; Elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik; Electronics; elektronik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we study algorithms and architectures that can provide a better Quality of Experience (QoE) for streaming video systems and services. With cases and examples taken from the application scenarios of football on mobile phones, we address the fundamental problems behind streaming video services. READ MORE

  5. 10. Very low bitrate facial video coding : based on principal component analysis

    Author : Ulrik Söderström; Haibo Li; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Image processing; Video processing; Very low bitrate coding; Other electrical engineering; electronics and photonics; Övrig elektroteknik; elektronik och fotonik;

    Abstract : This thesis introduces a coding scheme for very low bitrate video coding through the aid of principal component analysis. Principal information of the facial mimic for a person can be extracted and stored in an Eigenspace. Entire video frames of this persons face can then be compressed with the Eigenspace to only a few projection coefficients. READ MORE
