  1. 1. High Resolution Analysis of Halftone Prints : A Colorimetric and Multispectral Study

    Author : Daniel Nyström; Björn Kruse; Markku Hauta- Kasari; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Color imaging; Multispectral imaging; Halftone print; Dot gain; Image analysis; Bildanalys;

    Abstract : To reproduce color images in print, the continuous tone image is first transformed into a binary halftone image, producing various colors by discrete dots with varying area coverage. In halftone prints on paper, physical and optical dot gains generally occur, making the print look darker than expected, and making the modeling of halftone color reproduction a challenge. READ MORE

  2. 2. Using Multicoloured Halftone Screens for Offset Print Quality Monitoring

    Author : Lars Bergman; Björn Kruse; Antanas Verikas; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Datorteknik; multicolour printing; printing process; colour images; colour impression; CCD-camera; Datorteknik; Computer engineering; Datorteknik;

    Abstract : In the newspaper printing industry, offset is the dominating printing method and the use of multicolour printing has increased rapidly in newspapers during the last decade. The offset printing process relies on the assumption that an uniform film of ink of right thickness is transferred onto the printing areas. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterization of Halftone Prints based on Microscale Image Analysis

    Author : Mahziar Namedanian; Sasan Gooran; Jon Yngve Hardeberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Ink spreading and lateral light scattering in the substrate affect the color of a halftone print. One of the most important phenomena which affects the print result is dot gain, meaning that printed dots appear larger than the dots in the digital bitmap. READ MORE

  4. 4. Striping on flexo post-printed corrugated board

    Author : Martin Holmvall; Tetsu Uesaka; Joseph S Aspler; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemiteknik; Chemical engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Striping is the most common print non-uniformity on corrugated board. It is defined as periodic print density and/or print gloss variations parallel to the flutes. Corrugated boards are mainly printed with flexography, making striping a major concern for the flexographic post-printing industry. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dot Gain in Colour Halftones

    Author : Stefan Gustavson; Jonathan Amey; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The incomparably most common way of reproducing images in print is by halftoning, whereby varying levels of grey or colour are simulated by small dots with maximum colour density but with a varying local fractional area coverage, printed on a white substrate. Whenever such a reproduction is used, a ubiquitous effect called dot gain comes into play and makes the actual image appear darker than what would have been expected from a perfect reproduction.
