  1. 1. A Helping Hand : On Innovations for Rehabilitation and Assistive Technology

    Author : Mats Nilsson; Hans von Holst; Metin Akay; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hand function; Mechatronic system; Orthose; Neurological rehabilitation; Brain-Computer Interface; Functional Electric Stimulation;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on assistive and rehabilitation technology for restoring the function of the hand. It presents three different approaches to assistive technology: one in the form of an orthosis, one in the form of a brain-computer interface combined with functional electrical stimulation and finally one totally aiming at rehabilitating the nervous system by restoring brain function using the concept of neuroplasticity. 2. 2. Vibration-induced muscle injury in the hand - experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Lars Necking; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatologi; Surgery; muscle morphometry; intrinsic hand muscle; muscle strength; muscle injury; hand weakness; Vibration exposure; hand-arm vibration syndrome; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi;

    Abstract : Exposure to vibration is known to cause vasospastic white fingers and/or sensorineural symtoms such as numbness and tingling in fingers and/or musculoskeletal disorders such as reduction in muscle force, fatigue and reduced endurance. Classifications for the vasospastic and sensorineural symptoms are established. READ MORE

  3. 3. Hand function in children and in persons with neurological disorders : aspects of movement control and evaluation of measurements

    Author : Elisabeth Svensson; Charlotte Häger-Ross; Birgitta Lindmark; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebellum; disability; hand function; hereditary motor and sensory neuropathies; latency; motor control; reactive control; reproducibility; sensation; strength; Physiotherapy; Sjukgymnastik fysioterapi;

    Abstract : Hand function is of great importance in the many daily activities that require well-coordinated hand and arm movements. Measurement of hand function is an essential element in the rehabilitation process, in order to facilitate medical diagnosis and determine developmental stages, functional levels, and the efficacy of treatment interventions. 4. 4. Brain plasticity and hand function

    Author : Anders Björkman; Malmö Handkirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; traumatologi; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatology; Surgery; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; hand function; nerve injury; brain plasticity; orthopaedics;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate the effects of cortical reorganisational changes following experimental deafferentation and peripheral nerve injury and apply the concept of brain plasticity to enhance sensory re-education following peripheral nerve injury and repair in the hand. In the first two papers the effects on hand function of contralateral deafferentation was investigated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Selection on floral traits in Primula farinosa

    Author : Didrik Vanhoenacker; Johan Ehrlén; Jon Ågren; Arjen Biere; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coevolution; correlational selection; Falseuncaria ruficiliana; geographic mosaic; hand pollination; Hermann Müller; interaction strength; plant-insect interactions; pollen limitation; selection strength; spatiotempora; Uta stansburiana; Biology; Biologi; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Abstract : Flowers and inflorescences have evolved in relation to animals for at least 100 million years. Plants attract pollinators with large, conspicuous, bright-coloured or scented flowers. These display attributes, however, also attract herbivores. READ MORE
