  1. 1. Recent Studies on Lp-Norm Estimation

    Author : Hans Nyquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : When estimating the parameters in a linear regression model, the method of least squares (L^-norm estimator) is often used. When thè residuals are independent and identically normally distributed, the least squares estimator is BLUE as well as equivalent to the maximum likelihood estimator. READ MORE

  2. 2. Role of plants in treating metal-polluted waters in wetlands

    Author : Johanna Nyquist; Maria Greger; Hans Brix; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; treatment wetlands; stormwater; AMD; metal uptake; wetland plants; Biology; Biologi; växtfysiologi; Plant Physiology;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to evaluate the role of wetland plants in wetland treatment of metal-polluted waters. The specific aims were to investigate metal uptake in various wetland plant species; whether and how wetland plants tolerate high metal concentrations in their immediate surroundings, and how the pH and metal concentrations of polluted waters influence metal uptake in wetland plants were also investigated. 3. 3. Optimal Design and Inference for Correlated Bernoulli Variables using a Simplified Cox Model

    Author : Daniel Bruce; Hans Nyquist; Werner G. Müller; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cox binary model; correlated binary data; log-odds ratio; D-optimality; E-optimality; power maximization; efficiency; Statistics; Statistik; statistik; Statistics;

    Abstract : This thesis proposes a simplification of the model for dependent Bernoulli variables presented in Cox and Snell (1989). The simplified model, referred to as the simplified Cox model, is developed for identically distributed and dependent Bernoulli variables. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optimal Design of Experiments for the Quadratic Logistic Model

    Author : Ellinor Fackle Fornius; Hans Nyquist; Christos Kitsos; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Logistic regression; D-optimality; c-optimality; Canonical design space; Maximum likelihood estimation; Sequential design; Stochastic approximation; Statistics; Statistik; statistik; Statistics;

    Abstract : Optimal design of experiments for binary data is the topic of this thesis. A particular logistic model including a quadratic term in the linear predictor is considered. Determining an optimal design for this model is complicated by the fact that the optimal design is dependent on the unknown true parameters. READ MORE

  5. 5. Estimation and optimal designs for multi-response Emax models

    Author : Bergrún Tinna Magnúsdóttir; Hans Nyquist; Ziad Taib; Nancy Flournoy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multi-response Emax models; Clinical Utility Index CUI ; optimal designs; system estimation; dose-response studies.; statistik; Statistics;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns optimal designs and estimation approaches for a class of nonlinear dose response models, namely multi-response Emax models. These models describe the relationship between the dose of a drug and two or more efficacy and/or safety variables. READ MORE
