  1. 1. Biomechanical assessment of head and neck movements in neck pain using 3D movement analysis

    Author : Helena Grip; Gertjan Ettema; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : movement analysis; kinematics; helical axis; neck pain; whiplash; cervical spine; pattern classification; motor control; head-eye co-ordination; head movement; biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Biomedical Radiation Science;

    Abstract : Three-dimensional movement analysis was used to evaluate head and neck movement in patients with neck pain and matched controls. The aims were to further develop biomechanical models of head and neck kinematics, to investigate differences between subjects with non-specific neck pain and whiplash associated disorders (WAD), and to evaluate the potential of objective movement analysis as a decision support during diagnosis and follow-up of patients with neck pain. 2. 2. Computational Models of Some Communicative Head Movements

    Author : Sonia Sangari; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : Speech communication involves normally not only speech but also face and head movements. In the present investigation the visual correlates to focal accent in read speech and to confirmation in Swedish are studied and a computational model for the movements is hypothesized. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ocular counter-rolling during head tilt

    Author : Tony Pansell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Eye movements; Ocular torsion; VOR; head tilt; Vision.;

    Abstract : When tilting the head towards the shoulder there are numerous mechanisms influencing on the generation and maintenance of ocular counter-roll. Each of these mechanisms has its own temporal and spatial characteristics which influences on the counter-rolled eye position. READ MORE

  4. 4. Neck function in rhythmic jaw activities

    Author : Birgitta Häggman-Henrikson; Antoon DeLaat; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : chewing; head; human; jaw; mandible; motor control; movement; neck; temporomandibular disorders; whiplash injury; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : Previous studies in animals and humans show anatomic and physiological connections between the trigeminal and cervical regions. This investigation tested the hypothesis of a functional integration between the human jaw and neck motor systems in rhythmic jaw activities. READ MORE

  5. 5. Physical exposure, musculoskeletal symptoms and attitudes related to ICT use

    Author : Ewa Gustafsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Input device; Wrist movements; Electrogoniometry; EMG; Muscle activity; Thumb movements; Working technique; Information and communication technology; Computer mouse; Mobile phone;

    Abstract : High prevalence of musculoskeletal symptoms/disorders in neck and upper extremities are reported among computer users. Considering the widespread use of information and communication technology (ICT) and mobile phones becoming more and more like computers with small keyboards it is of importance to identify the factors and conditions related to this use, that influence our health.
