  1. 11. Clinical Aspects of Pediatric Head Injury

    Author : Ramona Åstrand; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Head injury; Traumatic brain injury; Children; Management; Radiology; Biochemical brain injury markers; protein S100B;

    Abstract : Traumatic head injury is one of the leading causes to severe morbidity and death among children. Specific and national management guidelines for pediatric head injuries are lacking in Sweden, and management routines are consequently based on adult guidelines or local guidelines. READ MORE

  2. 12. Numerical Accident Reconstructions : A Biomechanical Tool to Understand and Prevent Head Injuries

    Author : Madelen Fahlstedt; Svein Kleiven; Peter Halldin; Michael Gilchrist; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Head injuries; Accident Reconstruction; Finite element analysis; Injury prevention; Helmet; Cyclist; Pedestrian; Epidemiology; Applied Medical Technology; Tillämpad medicinsk teknik;

    Abstract : Traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) are a major health and socioeconomic problem throughout the world, with an estimated 10 million deaths and instances of hospitalization annually. Numerical methods such as finite element (FE) methods can be used to study head injuries and optimize the protection, which can lead to a decrease in the number of injuries. READ MORE

  3. 13. Injuries among the elderly : study of fatal and non-fatal injury events

    Author : Harmeet Sjögren; Ulf Björnstig; Anders Eriksson; Pat Waller; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; elderly; injury; prevention; traffic; home; fall; crash; disease; bicyclist; pedestrian; cost; vehicle;

    Abstract : In view of the expected increase in the proportion of elderly in the population in most western countries, we studied injuries among the elderly (>60 years) by investigating hospital-treated injuries in inpatients and outpatients, and fatal injuries.One-year Hospital Injury Data - Even though the elderly made up only 15% of the injured in one year, they accounted for 42% of the total cost of trauma medical care, showing that injuries among the elderly place a disproportional burden on the health care system. 4. 14. Periulnar Injuries Associated with Distal Radius Fractures

    Author : Johan Scheer; Adolfsson Lars; Magnus Tägil; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Triangular fibrocartilage complex; Distal radius fractures; Wrist injuries; Distal radioulnar joint; Ulnocarpal stability; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Residual dysfunction after a fracture of the distal radius is most often mild but may give rise to significant impairment especially in the younger active population. The symptoms often manifest around the distal ulna when loading the hand or rotating the forearm. READ MORE
