  1. 21. Experimental cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation : with special reference to cerebral eicosanoid production and free radical scavengers

    Author : Xiaoli Liu; Marianne Forsman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology and intensive care; cerebral resuscitation; reperfusion damage; oxidative injury; eicosanoid; free radical scavenger; neurological function; alkaline buffer; S-PBN; PBN; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology;

    Abstract : Reperfusion injury after restoration of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) is often considered one of the predominant factors in determining neurological outcome in cardiac arrest. Therefore one of the main targets of experimental and clinical studies has been to mitigate this reperfusion injury. READ MORE

  2. 22. Tissue Perfusion and Oxygenation Evaluated by Measurements of Tissue Gases and pH. An Experiemental Study

    Author : Åke Mellström; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; Anaesthesiology; Tissue pH; Tissue PCO2; Oxygen utilization; Tissue PO2;

    Abstract : Optimum peripheral perfusion, oxygenation and oxygen utilization is a prerequisite for normal wound healing, resistance to infection and cardiac function. The purpose of this study was to evaluate peripheral oxygen utilization by measurements of subcutaneous tissue gases and pH (PscO2, PscCO2 and pHsc) in comparison to established techniques for measurements of periph-eral tissue oxygenation and oxygen utilization in experimental animal models with hyperoxia-hypoxia, acidosis-alkalosis and haemorrhage-resuscitation. 3. 23. Quality of drug treatment in older people from a medical primary care perspective and according to indicators

    Author : Naldy Parodi López; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; inappropriate prescribing; older people; pharmacoepidemiology; potentially inappropriate medication; potential prescribing omission; primary health care;

    Abstract : Background: Drug treatment in older people is particularly complex; the burden of disease increases by age, and patients in this age group are more sensitive to drug effects. As a knowledge resource for clinicians as well as for benchmarking and pharmacoepidemiological research, indicators of prescribing quality for older people have been established, including potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) and potential prescribing omissions (PPOs). Abstract : After oesophageal cancer surgery it is known that patients have a reduced QOL and that they suffer an unmet need of support. The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate patients’ experiences of QOL and supportive care as well as to evaluate a telephone based nurse-led supportive care programme to patients after oesophageal cancer surgery. Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to study the daily process of coping, potential prognostic factors for recovery and evaluating an individually tailored behavioural medicine intervention in the acute stage of Whiplash Associated Disorders (WAD). The studies comprised three samples of patients with acute Whiplash Associated Disorders (WAD). READ MORE
