  1. 1. Pool Boiling on Structured Surfaces: Heat Transfer and Critical Heat Flux : Experiments and Mechanistic Modelling

    Author : Zhen Cao; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; pool boiling; heat transfer; critical heat flux; bubble dynamics; surface modification;

    Abstract : In this thesis, pool boiling heat transfer was experimentally studied on structured surfaces with dielectric liquids (HFE-7200, NOVEC-649, FC-72), organic liquids (Acetone, Pentane) and deionized water.In the first step, nanoparticle coatings on copper surfaces were prepared by an electrophoretic deposition method, with Cu-Zn nanoparticles (100 nm) and Cu nanoparticles (150 nm). 2. 2. Flow Boiling Heat Transfer in Single Vertical Channels of Small Diameter

    Author : Claudi Martin Callizo; Björn Palm; Predrag Hrnjak; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; microchannel; heat exchanger; heat transfer; flow boiling; flow patterns; onset of nucleate boiling; dryout; critical heat flux; Mechanical and thermal engineering; Mekanisk och termisk energiteknik;

    Abstract : Microchannel heat exchangers present many advantages, such as reduced size, high thermal efficiency and low fluid inventory; and are increasingly being used for heat transfer in a wide variety of applications including heat pumps, automotive air conditioners and for cooling of electronics.However, the fundamentals of fluid flow and heat transfer in microscalegeometries are not yet fully understood. 3. 3. Fluxes of Sensible and Latent Heat and Carbon Dioxide in the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer

    Author : Erik Sahlée; Ann-Sofi Smedman; Anna Rutgersson; Sören Larsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Meteorology; Sensible heat flux; Latent heat flux; Carbon dioxide; Turbulent exchange; Global heat fluxes; Marine boundary layer; Air-sea interaction; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : Oceans cover about 70% of the earth’s surface. They are the largest source of the atmospheric water vapour and act as enormous heat reservoirs. Thus in order to predict the future weather and climate it is of great importance to understand the processes governing the exchange of water vapour and heat between the ocean and atmosphere. 4. 4. Land surface heat exchange over snow and frozen soil

    Author : David Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Surface energy balance; Snow; Boreal forest; SVAT models; Eddy-correlation Measurements; Latent heat flux; Sensible heat flux; Net radiation; Soil temperature; Aerodynamic roughness; Surface resistance; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : The energy exchange in the soil-snow-vegetation-atmospheresystem was studied to improve the quantitative knowledge of thegoverning processes. The lack of such knowledge contributes tothe uncertainty in the applicability of many existing modelsindependent of the temporal or spatial scale. READ MORE

  5. 5. Heat transfer phenomena and mould flux lubrication in continuous casting of steel

    Author : Akira Yamauchi; KTH; []
    Keywords : Heat Transfer; Thermal Conductivity; Contact Resistance; Mould Flux; Solidification; Lubrication; Infiltration; Friction; Shear Stress; Modeling; Crystallization; Rupture Strength; Solidus; High-Speed Casting; Viscosity; Elasticity; Uniform Cooling;

    Abstract : Overall thermal resistance of the mould flux was measured tomake clear the influence of the mould flux properties on theheat transfer behavior in continuous casting, especiallythermal conductivity and the formation of air gaps in thisstudy. From the investigation of the effect of the mouldsurface temperature and physical properties of the mould fluxon heat transfer through the flux film, following knowledge hasbeen obtained. READ MORE
