21. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions
Abstract : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation. 22. Numerical Analysis of Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow in Heat Exchangers with Emphasis on Pin Fin Technology
Abstract : One of the most important industrial processes is heat transfer, carried out by heat exchangers in single and multiphase flow applications. Despite the existence of well-developed theoretical models for different heat transfer mechanisms, the expanding need for industrial applications requiring the design and optimization of heat exchangers, has created a solid demand for experimental work and effort. 23. Future District Heating Interactions – Modelling Impacts of Industrial Excess Heat Utilisation and Energy Efficient Buildings
Abstract : International goals for climate change mitigation plus energy security targets could be met cost-effectively by interactions between different parts of energy systems. The fourth generation of the district heating systems concept was developed as an attempt to accelerate district heating (DH) systems’ interactions with other energy systems. READ MORE

24. Large Heat Networks in District Heating Systems
Abstract : District heating (DH) systems have experienced three generations since the 1880s. In chronological order, high temperature steam and pressurized hot water above and below 100 degrees have been used to carry heat over these three generations. READ MORE

25. Towards a learning system for process and energy industry : Enabling optimal control, diagnostics and decision support
Abstract : Driven by intense competition, increasing operational cost and strict environmental regulations, the modern process and energy industry needs to find the best possible way to adapt to maintain profitability. Optimization of control and operation of the industrial systems is essential to satisfy the contradicting objectives of improving product quality and process efficiency while reducing production cost and plant downtime.
