  2. 2. An Investigation of the Influence of Knee Flexion Angle on the Activity of the Triceps Surae Muscles during the Heel-Raise Test

    Author : Kim Hébert-Losier; S. John Sullivan; Anthony G. Schneiders; José A. García; Univeristy of Otago; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomechanics; Electromyography; Triceps surae; Achilles tendon; Plantar flexion; Heel raise test; Physiotherapy; Rehabilitation; Musculoskeletal; Movement analysis; Muscle endurance; Maximum voluntary isometric contraction;

    Abstract : Background: The heel-raise test (HRT) is used in clinical practice and research to assess the triceps suare (TS) muscles. The test involves repetitive unilateral heel-raises in upright stance. The test is administered with the knee straight for gastrocnemius medialis (GM) and lateralis (GL), and with the knee bent for soleus (SOL). READ MORE

  3. 3. Single-particle cryo-electron microscopy of macromolecular assemblies

    Author : Kimberley Cheng; Hans Hebert; Roland Beckmann; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) was used to study the structure of three macromolecular assemblies: the two hemocyanin isoforms from Rapana thomasiana, the Pyrococcus furiosus chaperonin, and the ribosome from Escherichia coli. Hemocyanins are large respiratory proteins in arthropods and molluscs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Towards unbiased 3D reconstruction : in single-particle cryo-electron microscopy

    Author : Dominika Elmlund; Hans Hebert; Sarah Butcher; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Cryo-electron microscopy of freestanding molecules (single-particles) plays a pivotal role in the difficult and pressing challenge of determining the structures of large macromolecular complexes. Molecular volumes are generated by aligning large sets of randomly oriented two-dimensional (2D) projection images in three dimensions (3D) before reconstruction is performed using tomographic techniques. 5. 5. Protein structure dynamics and interplay : by single-particle electron microscopy

    Author : Hans Elmlund; Hans Hebert; José Maria Carazo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biophysics; biochemistry; molecular; Biophysical chemistry; Biofysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Single-particle cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM) is a method capable of obtaining information about the structural organization and dynamics of large macromolecular assemblies. In the late nineties, the method was suggested to have the potential of generating “atomic resolution” reconstructions of particles above a certain mass. READ MORE
