  1. 1. Molecular Radionuclide Imaging Using Site-specifically Labelled Recombinant Affibody Molecules : Preparation and Preclinical Evaluation

    Author : Sara Ahlgren; Vladimir Tolmachev; Anna Orlova; Göran Hedenstierna; Joachim Feldwisch; Raymond Reilly; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; molecular radionuclide imaging; Affibody molecules; HER2; cancer detection; radiolabelling; technetium; indium; cobalt; SPECT; PET; Oncology; Onkologi; Diagnostic radiology; Diagnostisk radiologi; Radiation biology; Strålningsbiologi; Biomedical Radiation Science; Biomedicinsk strålningsvetenskap; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Radionuclide molecular imaging is an emerging multidisciplinary technique that is used in modern medicine to visualise diseases at cellular and molecular levels. This thesis is based on five papers (I-V) and focuses on the development of site-specific radiolabelled recombinant anti-HER2 Affibody molecules and preclinical evaluations in vitro and in vivo of the labelled conjugates. 2. 2. Ventilation and Lung Volume During Sleep and in Obstructive Sleep Apnea

    Author : Jonas Appelberg; Göran Hedenstierna; Christer Janson; Karl Franklin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physiology; Sleep; Ventilation; Sleep apnea syndromes; Snoring; Lung volume; Respiration; Computed tomography; Ventilatory response; Ventilation-perfusion; Airway closure; Fysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi; klinisk fysiologi; Clinical Physiology;

    Abstract : Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) appears to affect up to 5% of the population. The extent to what pulmonary function awake and during sleep relates to obstructive breathing and hypoxemia during sleep in these patients is unclear. READ MORE

  3. 3. Remote Ischemic Preconditioning and its Effects on the Respiratory System

    Author : Astrid Bergmann; Anders Larsson; Göran Hedenstierna; Thomas Hachenberg; Ola Winsö; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; one-lung ventilation; ventilation-induced lung injury; alveolar immune response; remote ischemic preconditioning; exhaled nitric oxide; animal model; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Abstract : Mechanical ventilation in itself can lead to pulmonary damage, and one-lung ventilation (OLV), necessary for thoracic surgery, accentuates this injury. Remote ischemic preconditioning (RIP) is a potential tool to reduce lung injury after mechanical ventilation, including OLV.  However, current data on pulmonary RIP-effects are contradictory. 4. 4. Glucocorticoid receptors in severe inflammation : Experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Maria Bergquist; Göran Hedenstierna; Christian Rylander; Catharina Lindholm; Cecile Martijn; Djillali Annane; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; glucocorticoid receptor; sepsis; inflammation; flow cytometry; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Abstract : Septic shock is one of the most common causes of mortality in intensive care, in spite of antibiotic treatment. Glucocorticoid treatment can be used to blunt an overwhelming immune response in severe inflammation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Intestinal effects of lung recruitment maneuvers

    Author : Jonas Claesson; Ola Winsö; Stefan Lehtipalo; Conny Arnerlöv; Björn Biber; Göran Hedenstierna; Petter Aadahl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute lung injury; oleic acid lung injury; ischemia; reperfusion injury; swine; mechanical ventilation; lung recruitment; splanchnic circulation; laser Doppler flowmetry; tissue oxygen tension; microdialysis; lactate; glycerol; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; lungmedicin; Lung Medicine;

    Abstract : Background and aims: Lung recruitment maneuvers (brief episodes of high airway pressure) are a modern treatment alternative to achieve open lung conditions under mechanical ventilation of patients with acute lung injury. It is well known that positive pressure ventilation with high airway pressures cause negative circulatory effects, and that the effects on regional vascular beds can be even more pronounced than the systemic effects.
