    Abstract : Vaginal commensal bacteria Interactions with cervix epithelial and monocytic cells and influence on cytokines and secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor, SLPI Louise Strömbeck Department of Infectious Medicine, Gothenburg University Abstract Lactobacillus is the predominant species of the vaginal microbiota in women of childbearing age. Lactobacilli are thought to contribute to the local immune defence by producing a variety of antimicrobial substances and, thereby, attenuate growth of other opportunistic bacteria. READ MORE

  2. 2. Virion- and VAP-receptor recognition in the human adenovirus type 2 system

    Author : Eduardo Rodriguez; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; T7pol-M13; adenovirus fiber shaft fragment; receptor recirculation; lysosomotropic agents; Adenovirus; HeLa cells; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on the early steps of a complex virus-cell interaction. The human adenovirus type 2 (HAdV-2) infects permissive cells, by first recognizing a protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily that serves as the Coxsackie and adenovirus receptor (CAR). This attachment step is mediated by the adenovirus fiber protein. READ MORE

  3. 3. Role of YopE and LcrH in effector translocation, HeLa cell cytotoxicity and virulence

    Author : Margareta Aili; Roland Rosqvist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; bacterial pathogenesis; YopE; LcrH; virulence; effector translocation; type III secretion; regulation; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : In order to establish an extra-cellular infection the gram-negative bacteria Yersinia pseudotuberculosis uses a type III secretion system (T3SS) to translocate a set of anti-host effectors into eukaryotic cells. The toxins disrupt signalling pathways important for phagocytosis, cytokine production and cell survival. READ MORE

  4. 4. Combined drug toxicity to HeLa cells in the MIT-24 test system and its relevance to human drug toxicity

  5. 5. Epidemiology of kidney failure and glomerulonephritis in Sweden. Hereditary and non-hereditary factors

    Author : Delshad Akrawi; kardiovaskulär epidemiologi och levnadsvanor Allmänmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kidney failure; glomerulonephritis; epidemiological study; Familial relative risk;

    Abstract : Background: Kidney disease is recognised as an important worldwide health burden. Kidney failure is the result of acute and chronic kidney disease and is associated with morbidity and mortality. Chronic kidney failure is associated with high-costs for society and low quality of life. READ MORE
