  1. 11. Modifying kraft pulping to produce a softwood pulp requiring less energy in tissue paper production

    Author : Hafizur Rahman; Per Engstrand; Mikael E. Lindström; Louise Logenius; Peter Sandström; Ulf Germgård; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : Modifying kraft pulp; tissue dewatering; polysulfide; sodium borohydride; tensile index; hemicellulose;

    Abstract : Modification of softwood kraft pulp by the addition of either polysulfide (PS) or sodium borohydride (NaBH4) has been shown to increase the pulp yield due to a higher retention of glucomannan.  The pulps with higher yield gave a paper with higher tensile index than reference pulp, especially at lower degrees of refining. 2. 12. Modification and Utilization of Wood Hydrolysates

    Author : Marie Svensson; Ann-Chrisitne Albertsson; Petra Mishnick; Ulf Gedde; KTH; []
    Keywords : wood hydrolysate; hemicellulose; microsphere; hydrogel;

    Abstract : Polysaccharides have been used for many years in a variety of products such as food, fuel supply and industrial products. During recent years there has been an increasing interest in a group of polysaccharides, hemicelluloses, due to their highly availability, renewability and potentially low price. READ MORE

  3. 13. Valorization of low-value lignocellulosic side-streams

    Author : Daria Lebedeva; Joseph S. M. Samec; Emiel J.M. Hensen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lignocellulose; lignin; hemicellulose; hydrodeoxygenation; zeolites; furfural; catalysis; cycloaddition; biomass fractionation; pulping; Organic Chemistry; organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The development of novel pathways for valorizing low-value streams from pulp, forest, and agricultural industries is crucial for realizing a circular bioeconomy and addressing the needs of both platform chemicals and fuels. Utilizing hemicellulose and lignin as biomass-derived feedstocks facilitates the production of sustainable liquid hydrocarbons, with catalytic hydrodeoxygenation being a key process. READ MORE

  4. 14. Wood Hydrolysate for Renewable Products

    Author : Yingzhi Zhu Ryberg; Ulrica Edlund; Ann-Christine Albertsson; Ann Cornell; Louise Staffas; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; wood hydrolysate; hemicellulose; oxygen permeability; PALS; film; coating; CMC; chitosan; HSP; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Renewable biomass has been used by mankind for a long time for different purposes, from simply food to industrial products. Among a large family of polysaccharides, hemicellulose is non-edible but has shown a potential in many industrial fields such as medicine, agriculture and packaging. READ MORE

  5. 15. Synthesis of AcGGM Polysaccharide Hydrogels

    Author : Laleh Maleki; Ulrica Edlund; Anette Larsson; KTH; []
