11. Lipoprotein lipase in hemodialysis patients and healthy controls : effects of heparin
Abstract : Mortality from cardiovascular disease in patients on chronic hemodialysis (HD) is 10 to 20 times greater than in the general population. One major risk factor is renal dyslipidemia, characterised by an impaired catabolism of triglyceride (TG)-rich lipoproteins with accumulation of atherogenic remnant particles. READ MORE

12. Fluid state and blood pressure control in patients on maintenance hemodialysis
Abstract : Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of high mortality in dialysis patients. Hypertension is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease and despite the use of highly efficient antihypertensive drugs (AHD), blood pressure (BP) is poorly controlled in the vast majority of hemodialysis (HD) patients. 13. Modulation of adhesion molecules on leukocytes during clinical and experimental hemodialysis : endothelial cell interacions
Abstract : In patients on hemodialysis the sequential steps required for adhesion molecule mediated adherence of leukocytes to endothelial cells are unphysiologically disrupted since cell activation with subsequent alterations in adhesion molecule phenotypes takes place in the extracorporeal circuit far away from the respective endothelial cell ligand. The aims of the present investigations were to study the changes in adhesion molecule phenotypes on inflammatory cells induced by clinical and experimental hemodialysis and the consequences with regard to the capacity of the cells to adhere to endothelial cells. 14. Long-term prognosis with home hemodialysis. A comparison with other renal replacement therapies
Abstract : Background: The annual mortality for patients on dialysis is high even if it has decreased from 30 % in 1991 to 18 % in 2016. It is mainly caused by an increased cardiovascular and infectious morbidity. Previous studies have reported improved survival for patients with home hemodialysis (HHD). READ MORE

15. Studies of drug disposition in hemodialysis patients : impact of genetics, inflammation and vitamin D
Abstract : Chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients are at a high risk for drug adverse effects due to accumulation of drugs, which normally are excreted via the kidneys. It is believed that drugs that are metabolized by the liver are safe to prescribe in normal doses to end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients. READ MORE
