Abstract : This thesis discusses monitoring of in vivo doses of electrophilic compounds in animals and man by means of the determination of their covalent reaction products with hemoglobin. In animal experiments, about fifty compounds have been shown to give rise to covalent reaction products with hemoglobin, and, to date, no mutagenic or cancer-initiating agent has failed to yield such products.
