  1. 1. Embodied simulation as off-line representation

    Author : Henrik Svensson; Tom Ziemke; Germund Hesslow; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Embodied cognition; Simulation theories; Emulation; Forward models; Perception; Action; Cognitive science; Kognitionsvetenskap; Teknik;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis argues that a key to understanding the embodiment of cognition is the “sharing” of neural mechanisms between sensorimotor processes and higher-level cognitive processes as described by simulation theories. Simulation theories explain higher-level cognition as (partial) simulations or emulations of sensorimotor processes through the re-activation of neural circuitry also active in bodily perception, action, and emotion. 2. 2. Reconfigurable Architectures for Embedded Systems

    Author : Henrik Svensson; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Reconfigurable Architectures; Run-time Reconfiguration; Reconfigurable Computing; Embedded Systems; System Level Modeling; Design Exploration;

    Abstract : Application-specific circuits are used to migrate computer systems from workstations to handheld devices that need real-time performance within the budget for physical size and energy dissipation. However, these circuits are inflexible as any modification requires redesign and refabrication, which is both expensive and time-consuming considering the complexity of recent embedded platforms. 3. 3. Simulations

    Author : Henrik Svensson; Tom Ziemke; Serge Thill; Anthony Morse; Keith Downing; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with explanations of embodied cognition as internal simulation. The hypothesis is that several cognitive processes can be explained in terms of predictive chains of simulated perceptions and actions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of bacterial surface proteins interacting with the immune system

    Author : Henrik G Svensson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; virologi; mykologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology;

    Abstract : Pathogenic bacteria express a wide array of surface proteins that interact with the environment. Many of these proteins are believed to be important for the virulence. This thesis deals with the binding of immunoglobulins (Ig) and complement regulating proteins to certain bacterial surface proteins. READ MORE

  5. 5. Human adipose tissue morphology and function : relation to insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance with focus on pregnancy and women with previous gestational diabetes mellitus

    Author : Henrik Svensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adipose tissue; Adipocyte; Adipokines; Insulin resistance; Pregnancy; Gestational diabetes mellitus; Type 2 diabetes;

    Abstract : Obesity is a global health problem and affects women of reproductive age. During pregnancy, obesity increases the risk for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), in turn predisposing for type 2 diabetes (T2D). READ MORE
