  1. 1. Hierarchical Concurrent Systems from a Model-Oriented perspective

    Author : Daniel Einarson; Data Vetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; control; systems; numerical analysis; Computer science; Distributed Systems; Hierarchical Systems; Object-Orientation; Model-Orientation; Datalogi; numerisk analys; system; kontroll; Systems engineering; computer technology; Data- och systemvetenskap;

    Abstract : Real world systems are normally considered as hierarchically organized, for example, we see those as hierarchies of systems including subsystems. Examples on this can be seen in organizations where people act in environments and carry within themselves their own internal subsystem of thinking processes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Stochastic model updating and model selection with application to structural dynamics

    Author : Majid Khorsand Vakilzadeh; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Finite element model; Bayesian model selection; Bayesian model updating; stochastic simulation; Bootstrapping; Subspace system identification; Uncertainty quantification;

    Abstract : Uncertainty induced by our incomplete state of knowledge about engineering systems and their surrounding environment give rise to challenging problems in the process of building predictive models for the system behavior. One such challenge is the model selection problem, which arises due to the existence of invariably multiple candidate models with different mathematical forms to represent the system behavior, and so there is a need to assess their plausibility based on experimental data. 3. 3. A Facet Model of the Logical Operational Structures of Piaget's Theory : Guttman's Facet Design applied to Piaget's Theory

    Author : Barbro Bergling; Siv Fischbein; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; facet design; Piaget; operational thinking; Rasch; partial credit model; hierarchical model; psykologi; Psychology;

    Abstract : This thesis explored whether the complex structure of Piaget's theory of operational thinking could be synthesized into a facet model by means of facet design. The aims were: (1) to deduce from detailed conceptual analyses of 12 of Piaget's classical experiments the essential parts of the operational structures (Study I); (2) to explore the internal structure of his constructs in terms of a mapping sentence (Study II); (3) to study the hierarchical structure of the interrelationships between the constructs (Study III); and (4) to apply the facet model in the development of test items (Study II and IV). 4. 4. Inference of Hierarchical Structure in Complex Systems

    Author : Olof Görnerup; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Protein evolution; Substitution groups; Modularity; Hierarchical dynamics; RNA world; Genetic code; Aggregation; Primordial evolution; Molecular evolution; Model reduction; Self-organization; Lumping; Emergence; Coarse graining;

    Abstract : Hierarchical organization is a central property of complex systems. It is even argued that a system is required to be hierarchical in order to evolve complexity within reasonable time. A hierarchy of a system is defined as the set of self-contained levels at which the system operates and can be described on. READ MORE

  5. 5. Prognostics and Health Management of Engineering Systems for Operation and Maintenance Optimisation

    Author : Madhav Mishra; Matti Rantatalo; Kai Goebel; Kalevi Huhtala; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Prognostics and Health Management PHM ; Diagnostics; Prognostics; Bayesian; Hierarchical; L10; Prediction; Bearing; Li-ion battery; RUL; Particle filter; Model-based; Data-driven; Algorithms; Railway track geometry; Operation and Maintenance Engineering; Drift och underhållsteknik;

    Abstract : Prognostics and health management (PHM) is an engineering discipline that aims to maintain system behaviour and function and ensure mission success, safety and effectiveness. Prognostics is defined as the estimation of remaining useful life. READ MORE
