  1. 6. Phenomenology of Inert Scalar and Supersymmetric Dark Matter

    Author : Erik Lundström; Joakim Edsjö; Lars Bergström; Michel Tytgat; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dark matter; inert scalars; supersymmetry; indirect detection; accelerator searches; Physics; Fysik; Astroparticle physics; Astropartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; teoretisk fysik; Theoretical Physics;

    Abstract : While the dark matter has so far only revealed itself through the gravitational influence it exerts on its surroundings, there are good reasons to believe it is made up by WIMPs – a hypothetical class of heavy elementary particles not encompassed by the Standard Model of particle physics. The Inert Doublet Model constitutes a simple extension of the Standard Model Higgs sector. READ MORE

  2. 7. Measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson cross sections in the WW* decay mode with the ATLAS experiment

    Author : P. Edvin Sidebo; Jonas Strandberg; Markus Klute; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; p p: colliding beams; Higgs particle: hadroproduction; Higgs particle: decay; cross section: measured; High energy physics: experimental; Timing detectors; p p: scattering; ATLAS; Cern LHC Coll; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis summarises measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson production cross sections based on proton–proton collision data at √s = 13 TeV produced by the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. By analysing data collected during 2015 and 2016 by the ATLAS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 fb−1, the Higgs boson gluon–gluon fusion and vector boson fusion production cross sections are measured in the WW* decay mode. 3. 8. Measurements of Angular Correlations in Minimum Bias Events and Preparatory Studies for Charged Higgs Boson Searches at the Tevatron and the LHC

    Author : Camille Bélanger-Champagne; Claus Buszello; Tord Ekelöf; Nick van Remortel; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Studies of minimum bias events at colliders probe the behavior of QCD in the non-perturbative regime. The phenomenology of events in this regime is described by empirical models that take many parameters, which all need to be tuned to the observed data. READ MORE

  4. 9. Exploration of extended Higgs sectors, development of a displaced track trigger, and improvements in GRID middleware

    Author : Max Isacson; Elin Bergeås Kuutmann; Patrizia Azzi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; BSM; Supersymmetry; Standard Model; Higgs; 2HDM; Charged Higgs; Compositeness; Pattern Matching; GRID; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : Two possible solutions to the Standard Model (SM) fine-tuning problem are presented in this thesis, MSSM and Compositeness. The Higgs sector of the MSSM can be tested by searching for charged Higgs bosons. Two direct searches for charged Higgs bosons decaying into a top- and bottom-quark are performed using 13.2 and 36. 5. 10. Neutrino Oscillations and Charged Higgs Bosons – Experimental Projects for Physics beyond the Standard Model

    Author : Christian Hansen; Tord Ekelöf; Blair Ratcliff; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; CERN; LHC; ATLAS; charged; Higgs; SUSY; MSSM; oscillating; neutrino; RICH; CNGS; HPD; Elementarpartikelfysik; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on work done in two different experimental projects. The first project, the Tau RICH, is a previously proposed τ-neutrino appearance experiment for the CERN neutrino beam at the Gran Sasso laboratory in Italy. The proposed experimental concept is based on the use of focusing RICH detectors with liquid radiator (C6F14). READ MORE
