  1. 16. Synthesis and Characterization of Transition Metal Diborides

    Author : Jimmy Thörnberg; Johanna Rosén; Per Persson; Helmut Riedl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DCMS; HiPIMS; Titanium Diboride; Titanium Aluminum Diboride; Chromium Diboride; Microstructure; Hardness; Oxidation Resistance;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted towards physical vapor deposition (PVD) of thin films of transition-metal (TM) diborides, focused on the material system TiBx, Ti1-xAlxB2-y and CrBx. The metal diborides are a large family of compounds with both metallic and ceramic properties, due to its bonding nature being a mix of covalent and ionic bonds. READ MORE

  2. 17. Fundamental aspects of HiPIMS under industrial conditions

    Author : Mattias Samuelsson; Ulf Helmersson; Torbjörn Joelsson; Hans Högberg; Bengt Wälivaara; Jörg Patscheider; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Fundamental aspects of the high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) process and its implication for film growth under industrial conditions have been studied. The emerging HiPIMS technique exhibits a higher plasma density and an enhanced degree of ionisation of sputtered material as compared to conventional direct current magnetron sputtering (DCMS). 3. 18. Multifunctional Transition-metal Diboride Coatings Synthesized by Magnetron sputtering with Synchronized Metal-ion Irradiation

    Author : Babak Bakhit; Grzegorz Greczynski; Johanna Rosén; Paul Mayrhofer; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Refractory transition-metal diborides (TMB2), classified as ultra-high temperature ceramics, are promising materials for extreme thermal and chemical environments. There is a growing demand for employing TMB2 in high-temperature electrodes, advanced nuclear fission reactors, molten metal containment, refractory crucibles, thermocouple protection tubes in steel baths and aluminum reduction cells, reinforcement fibers, solar power, aerospace, and armor applications. 4. 19. HiPIMS-based Novel Deposition Processes for Thin Films

    Author : Asim Aijaz; Ulf Helmersson; Kostas Sarakinos; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this research, high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) based new deposition processes are introduced to address; the issue of low degree of ionization of C in magnetron sputtering discharges, and the difficulty encountered in thin film deposition on complex-shaped surfaces. The issue of low degree of C ionization is addressed by introducing a new strategy which is based on promoting the electron impact ionization ofC by increasing the electron temperature in the plasma discharge using Ne, instead of conventionally used Ar. 5. 20. Low Friction and Wear Resistant Carbon Nitride Thin Films for Rolling Components Grown by Magnetron Sputtering

    Author : Konstantinos D. Bakoglidis; Lars Hultman; Grzegorz Greczynski; Susann Schmidt; Esteban Broitman; Tomas Kubart; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The scope of this licentiate thesis is the investigation of carbon based thin films suitable for rolling components, especially roller bearings. Carbon and carbon nitride are materials with advantageous tribological properties and high resiliency. READ MORE
