  1. 1. Ecology and Control of Triatomine (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) Vectors of Chagas Disease in Guatemala, Central America

    Author : Maria Carlota Monroy; Thomas G.T. Jaenson; Chris Curtis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Chagas disease; control; epidemiology; ecology; Triatoma dimidiata; T. nitida; T. ryckmani; Rhodnius prolixus; serology; populations movements; geographic distribution.; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : This thesis analyses several factors affecting the control of triatomines in Guatemala. There are three synantropic triatomines in Guatemala, i.e., Rhodnius prolixus, Triatoma dimidiata and T. READ MORE

  2. 2. Affirming Catholicism : The formative years of a liberal Anglo-Catholic organisation in the Church of England, circa 1985 to 2000

    Author : Helene T. Steed; Affilierade (CTR); []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Affirming Catholicism; High Church; Anglo-Catholicism; liberal Catholicism; Church of England; Anglican; Anglicanism;

    Abstract : This thesis is a history of Affirming Catholicism, a liberal Anglo-Catholic organisation within the Church of England, chiefly covering the period circa 1985 to 2000. It examines the rise of Affirming Catholicism, the events that led to its formation, the individuals involved, and the reasons why it came into being. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quasi-analytical Modelling and Optimisation Techniques for Transport Aircraft Design

    Author : Askin T. Isikveren; KTH; []
    Keywords : aircraft; conceptual; design; specifications; atmosphere; geometry; weight; aerodyanmics; propulsion; operational performance; stability and control; constrained multi-objective optimisation; computer aided design; regional; business; high-transonic; ;

    Abstract : The research work presented here focuses on the subject oftransport aircraft design at the pre-design or conceptuallevel. The primary topics addressed are: (1) generation of avast array of new quasi-analytical expressions to permit aconceptual treatment of commercial and business transportaircraft with adequate sensitivity for more advanced tradestudies; (2) review and adoption of a method to predictstability and control characteristics (using the Mitchellmethod); (3) a study of the relative merits between variousmethods in facilitating an expedient and robust constrainedmulti-objective optimisation result within the context oftraditional conceptual design problems (Genetic Algorithms andNelder-Mead Simplex search); (4) creation of a software packageas a new and unique conceptual tool that permits the generationof design proposals in an accurate yet expeditious manner; and,(5) practical demonstration of the new conceptual designsoftware package by undertaking some actual aircraft designproposals. 4. 4. Exploring genetic heterogeneity in cancer using high-throughput DNA and RNA sequencing

    Author : Erik Fasterius; Cristina Al-Khalili Szigyarto; Mathias Uhlén; Peter-Bram ’t Hoen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biotechnology; bioinformatics; RNA-seq; WGS; WES; systems biology; variant analysis; single nucleotide variant; gene expression; machine learning; clustering; open source; R; bioconductor; Python; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : High-throughput sequencing (HTS) technology has revolutionised the biomedical sciences, where it is used to analyse the genetic makeup and gene expression patterns of both primary patient tissue samples and models cultivated in vitro. This makes it especially useful for research on cancer, a disease that is characterised by its deadliness and genetic heterogeneity. READ MORE

  5. 5. Breaking the Dimensionality Curse of Voronoi Tessellations

    Author : Vladislav Polianskii; Florian T. Pokorny; Michael Bronstein; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; geometric methods; machine learning methods; Voronoi; Delaunay; high dimensional geometry; curse of dimensionality; monte carlo; Datalogi; Computer Science;

    Abstract : Considering the broadness of the area of artificial intelligence, interpretations of the underlying methodologies can be commonly narrowed down to either a probabilistic or a geometric point of view. Such separation is especially prevalent in more classical "pre-neural-network" machine learning if one compares Bayesian modelling with more deterministic models like nearest neighbors. READ MORE
